I usually test first thing myself, but when you have had a sudden shock (e.g. alarm) your body goes into fight or flight mode and pumps a good slug of glucose into your blood so you have the energy available to fight or run away. You get this to a lesser extent whenever you wake as your body prepares for increased activity.@midnightrider Ohhhh, I thought it was better to test straight away as that’s catching your BG “in the act” so to speak so you get a better understanding of how it spikes. I’ve only been testing for a bit over a week and I do it as soon as I wake up, even before having a drink of water or going to the bathroom.
I have to ask, after catching quite a few frogs as a child, I have never ever thought of eating their legs. Do they taste like chicken? My mother, who turned 99 on Dec 07 last year has entertained thoughts I may be an alien life form (long story) and I may have mentioned to her that what if "my people" arrived here and regarded us as their food? Just a thought, don't get alarmed...Thursday 18/4

Yes, they do have a resemblance to chicken. I have always loved them though, since childhood summers spent in France, eating stuff that most of my friends found disgusting.I have to ask, after catching quite a few frogs as a child, I have never ever thought of eating their legs. P.S. I may have had a few too many tequila...
FBG was 6.7 at 0810 this morning, food yesterday was;
Breakfast: zilch, black tea, 500 mg metformin, starvation diet until dinner
Lunch: nada, black tea, still starving, waiting for 1600 dinner
Pre Dinner: veggies and dip (snap peas, celery slices, cauliflower pieces, red and yellow peppers w/french onion dip), tequila and red wine
Dinner: roast turkey w/cranberry sauce, stuffing, brussels sprouts, buttered carrots, mashed rutabaga, beet salad, red wine, 500 mg metformin
Dessert: Granddaughter's homemade trifle (2 small bowls), more red wine
Snack: tequila, red wine and 1 shot of "Mamamango" (Italian moscato & mango liquer)...
The actual dinner was not very threatening blood glucose wise, but the homemade trifle (strawberries, blackberries, blueberries and kiwi slices in a thick cream/custard with whipped cream on top) definitely (likely) had an effect, didn't bother checking until about 10 PM when it was 7.2. The Italian Mamamango liquer was also not likely a good thing for me to sample, especially since moscato is too sweet all by itself. As I don't really like moscato and/or mango juice I won't be testing that particular liquer again, but once or twice a year a small taste of the trifle should be manageable...
