T2s: What was your fasting BG this morning, and what did you eat yesterday?

@midnightrider Ohhhh, I thought it was better to test straight away as that’s catching your BG “in the act” so to speak so you get a better understanding of how it spikes. I’ve only been testing for a bit over a week and I do it as soon as I wake up, even before having a drink of water or going to the bathroom.

FBG at 0840 was 5.9, food yesterday was;

Breakfast: 3/4 cup honey nut cheerios w/2% milk, black tea, 500 mg metformin
Lunch: Five Guys loaded small hamburger on lettuce, and a no-no... many fries and ketchup, water
Dinner: 5 pieces buffalo chicken wings w/really hot hot sauce, green salad w/oil and vinegar, 70 g chunk of baker's semi sweet chocolate, 2 glasses red wine, black tea, 500 mg metformin
Snack: 2 glasses of Gekkeikan sake

Today we are splurging for dinner and having BBQ meat, roast brussels sprouts, stir fried snap peas with bean sprouts and thus I will be starving myself for most of the day. In the interim will be installing shelves and fixing electrical problems at daughter # 1's...

I usually test first thing myself, but when you have had a sudden shock (e.g. alarm) your body goes into fight or flight mode and pumps a good slug of glucose into your blood so you have the energy available to fight or run away. You get this to a lesser extent whenever you wake as your body prepares for increased activity.
If you have a problem with insulin resistance / metabolic syndrome then your body will have difficulty reducing this high BG level. Otherwise it should come down pretty quickly. You can check this out if you measure immediately after any shock.
Anyway, I find it fair to wait 20 mins or so if I am woken with a start to get a 'real' fasting value, though this is quite rare as I usually wake 10 mins or so before my alarm goes off.

I have to ask, after catching quite a few frogs as a child, I have never ever thought of eating their legs. Do they taste like chicken? My mother, who turned 99 on Dec 07 last year has entertained thoughts I may be an alien life form (long story) and I may have mentioned to her that what if "my people" arrived here and regarded us as their food? Just a thought, don't get alarmed...

P.S. I may have had a few too many tequila...

Yes, they do have a resemblance to chicken. I have always loved them though, since childhood summers spent in France, eating stuff that most of my friends found disgusting.

On a more serious note, FBG of 5.3 at 0910 and yesterday's food was;

Breakfast: one hard boiled egg, black tea, 500 mg metformin
Lunch: green salad w/oil and balsamic vinegar, 3 tablespoons Chapman's salty caramel and vanilla ice cream, black tea
Dinner: BBQ steak (5 oz.), roast brussels sprouts, stir fried snap peas, onions and bean sprouts, small dish zero calorie orange Jello, black tea, one glass red wine, 500 mg metformin
Snack: 6 oz. of Bacardi 1873 rum with diet Pepsi, 2 shots of tequila

Making preparations for the big family meal on Easter Sunday, which undoubtedly will involve many high carb junk foods and chocolate for the grandchildren. I will content myself with roast turkey and a few slices of low carb ham, maybe even some (not very much) homemade stuffing...

Breakfast: 5 large strawberries, black tea, 500 mg metformin
Lunch: 1 bowl Mrs. Campbell's condensed mushroom soup, black tea

Snack: 1 shot dark rum, 2 Voortman diabetic (?) "no sugar added" wafer cookies and 1/2 glass 2% milk

Looks like the Voortman "no sugar added" wafers are somehow affecting my FBG, resulting in a reading of 6.9 this morning, so no more of them for this taste tester. Getting ready for today's Easter dinner event...

FBG was 6.7 at 0810 this morning, food yesterday was;

Breakfast: zilch, black tea, 500 mg metformin, starvation diet until dinner
Lunch: nada, black tea, still starving, waiting for 1600 dinner
Pre Dinner: veggies and dip (snap peas, celery slices, cauliflower pieces, red and yellow peppers w/french onion dip), tequila and red wine
Dinner: roast turkey w/cranberry sauce, stuffing, brussels sprouts, buttered carrots, mashed rutabaga, beet salad, red wine, 500 mg metformin
Dessert: Granddaughter's homemade trifle (2 small bowls), more red wine
Snack: tequila, red wine and 1 shot of "Mamamango" (Italian moscato & mango liquer)...

The actual dinner was not very threatening blood glucose wise, but the homemade trifle (strawberries, blackberries, blueberries and kiwi slices in a thick cream/custard with whipped cream on top) definitely (likely) had an effect, didn't bother checking until about 10 PM when it was 7.2. The Italian Mamamango liquer was also not likely a good thing for me to sample, especially since moscato is too sweet all by itself. As I don't really like moscato and/or mango juice I won't be testing that particular liquer again, but once or twice a year a small taste of the trifle should be manageable...

Yes, it was the afters that was high sugar for me too. Lemon meringue pie is traditional Easter fare in our house (after the roast lamb). I didn't indulge the last couple of years since diagnosis but what the hell, my BG has been perfectly normal for over 2 years now so worth a risk.
(I shall be having some leftovers after my meal this evening too!).

FBG today at 0825 was 6.1, food yesterday was;

Breakfast: 3/4 cup honey oat cheerios w/2% milk, black tea, 500 mg metformin
Lunch: 1/2 cup unsalted cashews, 2 turkey slices w/cranberry sauce, mashed rutabaga, black tea
Dinner: 2 slices turkey w/cranberry sauce, mashed rutabaga, buttered cooked carrots, 2 heaping tablespoons stuffing, 1 glass red wine, black tea, 500 mg metformin
Snack: 1 shot dark rum w/diet Pepsi

Not sure why FBG was 6.1 this morning, plus seemed to have gained 1 lb overnight, will starve myself a bit today and drink more water to see if I can lower my morning FBG for tomorrow. Am working on old motorcycle solid state ignition, installing shelf racks and extending range of wireless ethernet connection so hopefully should be busily converting excess blood glucose into useful energy...

Oooops! It may have been that 1/2 sack of pork "scratchings" I forgot to include as a snack last night! FBG was higher than I expected...
