Thanks for that. That is the most positive so far...& I needed that today...& makes sense. I will try testing before & after some meals...esp if I sneak something naughty in there like the potato or the fruit. Thanks again. :)

There's a whole bunch of "DON'T" 's, and the modest little "do" 's get lost in the shuffle. In the end though, it's about what makes you feel best. There's people here who can't follow a low carb diet, or won't, for whatever reasons. Some go keto, some low carb in whatever variety, some go for diet and medication, some meds only.... I don't know if you remember the scene in Life of Brian, where the whole crowd parrots "We're all individuals!", but Python had a point. We are. And what works for one, might not be doable for another. Follow your own path. Takes a while to figure out what that may end up being, but remember, there's more ways to do this, and metformin isn't the only option far as medication goes. A diet that feels like a prison isn't one you'll be able to keep up for a long time, and if you need a bit more flexibility, then that's perfectly fine. Keto is what works for me. It certainly doesn't have to be what works for you. Or for the next person to wander into the forum.

Besides, you're not actually doing badly you know! If you remain under 10, that's a big win right there. The ideal'd be under 8,5 at all times, as the normies would mainly be.... But there's always stuff that'll get in the way of that, be it a cold, a steroid shot in a sore shoulder or something. And life tends to happen too.

No-one's going to rap your fingers with a ruler if you're over every once in a while, or daily, or... Just make sure you try and keep your health AND stay in a good place, mentally. What other people think? Doesn't really matter all that much.

You're actually doing really well. There appears to be a bit of hanging onto the past holding back your progress to lower numbers.

Statistically most people rotate just 7 to 9 meals, so is the boredom more to do with carb craving.

You might try variations. E.g yesterday my daughter cooked chicken meatball curry on cauliflower rice. The processing of the chicken made the meal very different to chicken breast with cauliflower rice; she diced the chicken, froze for 30 minutes and then blended the chicken, mixed in curry spices and an egg and rolled into balls. This was cooked in coconut milk and tomatoes. The end result was unbelievable.

The day before was Nandos marinated air dried wings, burgers and low carb veg. Prior to that spiced spare ribs, salad, small beetroot, butternut squash chips and radish. Prior to that low carb Christmas dinner with all the trimmings. Prior to that low carb Tai Chicken and Broccoli curry. Prior to that Steak, seasoned mushrooms, bok choi, cherry tomatoes and butternut squash.

It doesn't have to be boring.

Can I come round to your house?, or send your daughter to mine. x

Oh thanks so much for that. I was having a bad day yesterday & feeling a bit down about lots of things. My daughter has been doing a low carb diet for a while now to lose weight & I miss proper contact with her & her support. My poor husband got the brunt of yesterdays wobble :( I hear what you say & appreciate the support. I also know in my heart of hearts that I`m going in the right direction as most of my BS readings are in the 7s now & I didn`t actually start all this malarky until 4 March when I look at the record. Much brighter today...& I didn`t have any toast for breakfast!

Maybe after COVID. I am blessed, there are 4 of us at home and even I can produce meals that are palatable. It brings me the greatest pleasure to see my wife and daughters eating in a way that I know gives them a fighting chance at health. I am of course 100% low carb, my wife 95%, 17 year old 90 - 95% and 15 year old 60%.

It is tough. My mom lives little over an hour away from me and we both are "vulnerable". Haven't seen her in well over a month and yeah, it is hard. I just send a lot of cards and the occasional treat (cd, flowers), just to keep her spirits up. And that's just missing one another; your girl's help with keeping up the diet is quite invaluable. So quite understandable that you have the occasional dip, as I think most of us do, especially now... And do a little exploding towards whomever is around in the process. But you are doing really well, while you've not been at it for a really long time . (Even if March seemed to last 4 years!).

Cut yourself a break. You're killing it, even if it doesn't feel like it sometimes. ;)
