I have my 2 favourite sleep-over dogs sleeping over for a few days. They arrived yesterday and one of them had been castrated 3 days before, so he was wearing one of those ridiculus baby suits.
That doesn't work at my place, as my dogs and cats can freely walk in and out of the garden, so he wet his little suit within 5 minutes of arriving, and I definitely don't want a dog with a peed over suit on my couch or in my bed.
So on a whim, I put a piece of tegaderm over his finely healing stitched wound. Works a charm, it's still there and because it's see-through I can keep an eye on the healing
On my sensors, the tegaderm usually stays on for the full 2 weeks, after which I ask a friend to yank it off, sensor and all. But the skin on the back of my arms is a lot sturdier than the delicate skin on the small dog's private parts, and I woudn't want to yank anything off a half healed wound anyway. (yes, yes, I could have done with a bit more thinking before applying it, but too late for that now, eh)
So what do we do? Leave it until it falls off?(my first choice). Use some oil or other non-toxic fat? (like peanut butter or plain butter. Dog votes for this option.) Soak in a bath? (dog is of mixed minds about this.) Something else?
