Hi all,

My first time posting here so hope i get the info all correct.

Had a very worrying night. My 75 year old mum telephoned me sounding very confused pleading for help . I got to her bedroom and found her in a very confused state which was horrible to see. Had to call the ambulance who said she was hypoglycemic. Took about an hour for her to stabilise by giving her plenty of foods . Only thing they said before the ambulance crew (who did an amazing job) was her temperature was very low at 33.5c but to get in bed and put the electric blanket on as it could have been with all the sweating . I just took her in a cup of tea and she is still shaken by the whole episode but back with us so to speak. However she is still freezing cold.

Couple of questions please . Firstly is it normal for a body to go cold after a hypoglycemic episode and secondly any tips on what i can do to get her temp back up a bit please.

Many thanks for any input as i am very worried.

Best wishes to all.

How awful for your poor mum and a very frightening experience for you also Jonbhoy. I suppose temp could drop when hypo as sweating helps cool the body down, if your mum is still unwell and feeling cold then I would seek medical advice given your mums age.

I don't know if my temperature goes down after a bad hypo, but I shiver a lot. Usually I get back to normal after about an hour. I tend to wrap myself in a blanket and have a hot drink (after treating the hypo).

Yes, my temperature almost always goes down after a hypo, especially at night and especially if I've been sweating.

I usually cover myself with a blanket and often put the heater on for 20 mins or so whatever time of year it is. That works best, I find.

I hope your mum is feeling much better now.

Is it usual to drop temperature after a hypo?
I've had literally hundreds, maybe thousands of them, I have never, ever been cold after one!
I was, always warm, even in the really cold winter we've had last year.the back door was always open!

Now I'm cold, if it goes below 15 degrees because of the weight loss!
