Tesco and DUK

Sugar free sweets! Naughty, but oh so nice once in a blue moon.
I agree with the poster who wants more low carb wraps, bread, noodles etc.

its actually an interesting question, as i do think "these shops should sell stuff for diabetics" but what would that be? apart from the livlife bread i cant think of anything other than what they do sell, fresh veg, meat, cream, JELLY it kind of got everything so from now on ill be thinking " these shops should stop selling everything other than stuff diabetics can eat" so everyone else can suffer too :)

especially creme eggs lol i slapped a woman in tescos the other day just for walking along the easter egg isle, she had the cheek to act shocked

Tesco sells milk and water, too.

But the bulk of what they sell is positively unhelpful to people with diabetes, and to those yet to become (though in due course sure to become) diabetic.

Indeed the normal, Western diet - as characterised by what fills the shelves of Western supermarkets - is very unfriendly towards diabetes.

Well, okay. But I have been into Tesco myself to but things occasionally. (Though I certainly wouldn't fill a basket.)

I was generalising, of course.

but what would you have them sell? just veg? if people didnt buy the chocolate they wouldnt bother selling it (i cant believe im defending supermarkets)

Tesco are a business and they sell what people buy. They do offer quite a large selection of foods suitable for diabetics but they also cater for others. They could do better for sure but they're no worse than other supermarkets and at least are raising money and awareness for our condition.

My complaint isn't with supermarkets alone.

I'm not happy that some of the junk they sell is advertised on TV to children.

Eg. So-called breakfast 'cereals', which contain sugar.

But I'm not recommending any particular change.

I'm just publicly complaining, that's all.

thats an issue with our whole culture, many folks believe these to be healthy, i know i did, i think it will take decades for the change to come if at all, too much money involved

I have it on good authority (i.e. I know the person who negotiated the deal) that Tesco directly asked DUK whether they should market specific foods as being good for diabetics (which they were expecting to do) and DUK categorically replied 'No'. There's no question that Tesco's annual charity choice is just PR on their part. The question is whether DUK could have made a better deal that could have helped spread diabetes awareness, or whether their only concern was to boost their own funds.

I may be cynical, but I expect the latter!
Sometime I think they should rebrand as "Type 1 Diabetes UK"

I was reading earlier that Tesco's reached the 10 million target and have extended their partnership with DUK to the end of 2014 :)

Have a look at where they spend their money, You can do it consistently through their research reports or a bit less scientifically here..http://timeline.diabetes.org.uk/? Seems to me as if both T1 and T2 received large funds. UKPDS is very much T2, islet transplants type 1. There has been some spent on the genetics of MODY
All of us benefit from the research into retinal photography and however you may view it, the CARDS study on statins and heart disease in people with diabetes.
The biggest grant they have ever given is going to Prof Taylor for Newcastle diet research (Roy Taylor, I found when looking this up was also behind the retinal photography research Now that's an interesting thing. )
