Listening to Radio 2 on way home and The Hairy Bikers were being interviewed, they have a new TV series out this month entitled The Hairy Dieters, both have lost 3 stone in 3 months and the programme follows their progress, it sounds good and should be interesting viewing:

BTW, they were asked if they were giving up their pie's and beer altogether......in typical Hairy Biker style they said NO

Thanks Viv, I missed when they said it was due to start but knew it was sometime in August.

They look amazing. I saw them being interviewed on a programme and the weight loss certainly shows.

they are apparently primarily doing it through low-fat dieting. It will be interesting to see what they come up with recipe wise.

Hi, :)

This is not fair, My sons will be watching the Olympics and my wife say's Emmerdale on the other tv.

Good news I have just found out I have got ( iplayer ).

Roy. :D

Well, I thoroughly enjoyed it! and was very impressed that they're working with the Newcastle diet team even if they're not doing the 600cal a day job.

They have reduced their fat intake, but it looks to me as if they're also cutting down on carbs. I loved the substitution of leek sheets for lasagne - that was worthy of WhitbyJet!

I think it's going to be worth watching. I like both of them and often watch their series, even if they don't cook low-carb. Who knows, this one might actually be useful.

My name being taken in vain

I enjoyed watching it as well, so definitely will follow the series. I shall try their lasagna version - although i cannot have milk and i dont think soya milk will be a good substitute....hmmmmmm will think about that one!

Hi Clay!

Was just wondering regarding the milk situation, can you tolerate Lactofree milk? I use that and I find the taste the same as regular cows milk.

the leek sheets sound wonderful, I do love lasagne, expecially beg lasagne, so defiantely worth giving it a go..

I do love the hairy bikers approach to most foods, they do come up with sime weird concoctions

Just finished watching this on the BBC IPlayer after someone kindly sent me a pm referring to it.

I thought it was an excellent start to what looks like a very interesting program, thought the woman who had lost 12 stones who they met at the slimming club was amazing but the best bit for me was definitely the leek lasagne, low calorie (354 per portion) low fat and low carb too I have already printed off the recipe, who would have thought of unrolling leeks lengthways to use as pasta sheets, brilliant, will be trying that next week when I next cook the evening meal

Looking forward to next weeks recipes :D

Well worth watching if you missed it IMHO

Tried it myself and didn't notice any difference in the taste, from memory it has around half the carbs.

It's definitely a good product with the only downside I can see being it's dearer to purchase when you drink as much milk as my kids do. :)

Incredibly after giving this programme the heads-up it clashed with two other recordings so didn't tape (yet again) I'll catch up with it on iplayer.

Oh yeah that should be fine.... thanks for that Paul. creme fraiche would probably work well as well as:)

Caught up with The Hairy Dieters last night. Both Si and Dave were visually shocked when they were weighed and scanned and told how much their body mass was fat by Prof Roy Taylor, even discussing their calorie intake with the Dietitian they seemed quite surprised how many calories they had consumed over a 3 day period (3500).

Dave's cousin Muriel summed it up when she said it wasn't about what you ate but the quantity you consume, the hotpot she made looked absolutely lovely and you have to say she looked remarkably well for a lady of 79.

The lady who lost 12 stone by reducing her calories was an inspiration to others, the low-fat food her husband made did look good and the low-calorie/low-carb lasagna the boys made at the end did surprised the slimming group that it didn't contain pasta, I'm going to try this next week as I love lasagna.

Sorry if I spoilt it by posting The Hairy Bikers weight loss in my opening post, really looking forward to next weeks programme now! :)

I too made the lasagne dish. It was excellent, apart from the leeks being a little difficult to cut through. Made the cheese sauce in the conventional way (the bikers used cornflour).
