Re: The 4% Club

An answer to your query, Andy, but this is for non-diabetics:

Total chol: below 5.18
HDL above 1.2 - preferably higher
Triglycerides below 1.70 and the lower the better. My best ever was 0.65
LDL below 3

Total:HDL ratio - below 5:1, preferably 3.5:1. This is very important and you should ask for it.

Targets for diabetics are lower - Noblehead keeps posting them but I keep forgetting to save them!

I run my total cholesterol levels higher than recommended for diabetics, but my lipid profile is on target for most of the others. My GP watches my Total:HDL ratio more than my total, and doesn't nag me.

Your surgery should give you a print-out of your lipid profile if you ask.

So, a year later and my new HbA1c is 4.6

Yep, you saw right. I'm feeling a bit shocked really, I know how I'm doing it but it still seems, well, shocking! The receptionist assured me it was within normal limits and I just roared with laughter.

I'm now entering year six of my LCHF diet and I continue to learn and grow. The only sadness to all this is I'm unlikely to EVER beat that number and I should really stop being so competitive with myself.

Well done that all sounds terrific....

i have been low carbing for four months now and lost 3 stone 5 pounds, my bmi is 24.9 so all is good but i still have some flab around my belly, mainly lose wobbly stuff and id love to shift it but my weight loss has just stopped, i try to stay between 30 - 50g carbs a day, i was actually cutting out some of the fatty stuff because i was thinking it has stopped due to my calorie intake and the fat i eat, would anyone say this is wrong? i mean surely i cant literally eat as much fat as i like? and double cream with my jellies i have for afters at night, i could eat a bucket of it but try to keep it to like a third of a pot, should i not worry about the fat and calories at all? and any ideas what would help me lose 10lb which i would say would be my happy weight? sorry to cut in on your lovely thread with questions

Well done, Libby!!

And actually, LittleWolf, 3.8-4.9 is non-diabetic. 5.0-5.6 is pre-diabetic. 5.7 and above is diabetic.
