The SCREAM thread

Re the Googling of symptoms..
I raised this issue on a fairly recent response I gave to a lady who had unfortunately suffered a traumatic bereavement, you can see the post by checking my profile. I have the feeling what I said went down like a lead balloon and there were many posts with the alternative view, which is fair enough - I kept quiet after that. Can I just say that this type of obsessive anxiety is very specific, it's called Health Anxiety and is a truly awful thing to live with.
I was a member of an anxiety/depression/phobia forum ( not for HA) and the amount of people who had this anxiety was staggering. The old name for it is hypochondria but that doesn't come close to scratching the surface, people are CONVINCED they have illness A, B or C and no amount of medical testing/ reassurance alters their thinking, most of the time is spent googling symptoms or illnesses. The suggestion that it is anxiety is often met with total refusal to accept it may even be a possibility. The trouble is that anxiety can come from nowhere, with no specific cause and the physical symptoms of severe, heightened anxiety can mimic many, many illnesses. I was going to start a thread about this, to make people aware that it exists, and that not everybody who comes here with convincing symptoms but no diagnosis, especially after numerous tests, has a physiological problem. They're not making these things up, they are really suffering symptoms, but the worst thing for HA is repeated reassurance as it just reinforces the fear - until they exhaust all avenues and then symptoms of something else appear. Therapy can often help but it's getting someone to see that in the first place.
It may be good to start a post about it....you obviously have a deep understanding of it. It may help some people, if not the sufferers themselves but their friends and relatives...

If you think it may be helpful Jan, I'll do that later. I don't post much here nowadays so can't remember the rules re links, but will take a chance and put a link for the forum I was talking about. Maybe it will help someone or at least hopefully raise awareness that this disorder actually exists.
In its extreme form, people are so convinced they join forums for various illnesses such as cancer and motor neurone disease and post there about symptoms. Anyway..will pop back later and write the thread. Thanks for giving your opinion.

There was a recent message re the updated forum rules which said that links were allowed where they were useful to people...words to that effect anyhow...so it should be ok

Cyclosporidium found in Lancashire water treatment plant and I'm in an "advised to boil water" for consumption area....I only found out last nite from FB link youngest sent me. Remembered I have 6 x 500ml bottles in car so got that for backup. Got a 10 litre water container now full... And same amount now boiled but still in pans.....6 German Shepherds drink a lot... Esp the ones on steroids... One of whom won't drink it once it's got "slobby" ..... Boil notice will apply at least until over weekend....Have heard many care homes and food outlets weren't directly informed....

Do have water and technically its "on tap" but gotta boil the blooming stuff......good job the dishwasher has an antibacterial phase at the end of one of the washes......it doesn't go beyond 60degrees and they say unless it has a wash of 65 degrees to use boiled water for washing pots....its an environmentally friendly one hence the lower temperature.......

They still don't know how the cryptospiridum got into the water supply in the first place.....I mean, a water treatment plant you would think cleaned all the bugs out of the water..... wouldn't you?:rolleyes:

No wonder you are screaming........hope you are really well enough to start back at work on NIGHTS .. I know how disruptive it can be on the system having been married to a shift worker for many years.....

I forgot to take my morning pills today and only remembered at 1pm. They included pain meds and antidepressants, so I have been feeling terrible and not knowing why. Waiting for them to kick in now :(

We do have water, thank goodness....so it could be worse but I'm boiling about 20 litres a day to be sure dogs are OK. They say pets "should" be OK but not taking any chances. Two OAPS on lots of meds, one with dicky ticker and 3 healthy .... GSD are prone to upset time....
Thanks for everyone's good wishes x
