I know I should be thankful because there are a lot of people have a far worse life than me . But I am been truthful who can say they have fully accepted been a diabetic cause after 31 year's I don't. And I hate even hearing about it on the news or my family r other people talking about it. I still try to change the subject. That to me is not accepting it the fact is I am stuck with it and just keep going.

Hi Birdie,
Sorry I don't see your point what is there not to accept?
I was diagnosed as diabetic and fully accepted it straight away.

You mentioned you change the subject when it comes on TV. Are you feeling shame or blame for being diabetic it's not your fault. Your body can not react to sugar properly. There is no need to feel guilty.

I was over weight and completely bone idle.
But so are hundreds of thousands of other people, that are not diabetic. ;)

I find if your bs drop to low people blame you. Sometimes it just happens. Some members of my family are like that they c it as totally my fault. That is probably what I don't accept

I still get really irritated with restaurants that won't switch a starch for something healthier for a diabetic. Works two ways. They want my patronage? They can serve up things appropriate for diabetics
I would pay for what I had at that point and leave. Now I go further than I used to and ask for things to be cooked in butter, the thought of ranced user vegetable oil makes me feel sick . Where I have felt like I had to beg for a swap I have emailed and complained.

And why should you, accept it. I completely agree.
From your orignal post if came across as if you were in denial of being diabetic which is why I was having difficulty understanding, but that looks like I picked it up all wrong, sorry.

The thing is you know there wrong.;)

I dont think its not accepting, more that you are in control of your life.. no matter what your bloods are and people dont understand to be honest.

Everybody else without diabetes always has an opinion... and really do not have to talk about it.

I had my mum for decades describing me as her diabetic daughter... until I finally spoke up and said how irritating it is.. in the end to some people I say "if you really want to talk about me then please dont make it related to diabetes.. I manage it daily, if you want to understand then set your ckocks 3.30am every morning for a year... and wake up and grab a pen and write, tjis is Sharons injection time"- then go back to sleep. If you cant do that, then you really have no understanding of my life, my diabetes, so please back off.

Nobody mentions diabetes nowadays.

Alot more comfier in my own body now that people have backed off.

However, I also have backed off from making comments about healthy foods etc.. as this can cause debate then over their opinions and mine...

I dont think its you thats unaccepting, I tjink its others around you that think its ok to put that label stuck to your forehead as "diabetic"...

Insulin absorption can be like that for type1s.
A bit too much exercise or excitement can cause lows so easily for type1s.
Type2s have a slower reaction to insulin. Do you think your family understand the different between the 2 types?
Type1s have such dramatic change in their bgs. Not like most type2s. Type2s get more time to stop a hypo or hyper.
Carbs do figure in the type1 diet to give slower bg changes. Hoping for less hypos. Although it is a fine line in getting it just perfect... 2 readings in a row.
