I have ordered the Codefree so will get it in a few days. Thank you Resurgam I had forgotten about that book. I spent ages in the corner shop picking stuff up and putting it back on the shelf after reading the labels. It is a minefield out there.
Hi all
Saw the Nurse at the Health Centre yesterday for results of a blood test.
Cholesterol is a tiny bit high at 6.
Am on tablets for high blood pressure.
Glucose reading is very high so I probably have diabetes, no number given.
I won't need insulin.
I have another appointment in January when I will be given metformin and they will talk to me about diet.
I do need to lose weight so am going to be dusting off the bicycle.
My question is, is it normal to be diagnosed but have to wait a few weeks to start medication?
I have no idea how our local GP is fixed for giving out meters and strips, but would it be useful to get something now?
I have a diabetic dog who is just coming through a crisis, I have a meter for him, so I know how useful they can be.
I use the Fat Secret Australia website for the nutrition values of foodstuffs.Once I have emptied the cupboards, I will be more careful when buying. Just trying to find websites that give values.
Your welcome. it certainly helped me with the local food stores here in Australia.Tipetoo that is a great site, definitely one to bookmark, thank you.
Enjoy tomorrow night Gavin -one night won't matter. Living with diabetes isn't a race it's a marathon and you've plenty time to get your diet and treatment sorted out. As an initial step try to cut out or significantly reduce refined sugars and then start about reducing your carbohydrate intake. It will take a month or so to get a handle on diet, so just don't worry - most of us have been there and we are still here!Literally today been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and feel very confused. Yet to see dietition and have follow up appointment for treatment. any advice? Supposed to be going out with the lads tomorrow night but scared about high blood sugar now. Big shock!!
