Think Diabetes Meds caused IBS

I never had stomach problems in my life. I was diagnosed over the summer and started taking Metformin. Well it didn’t agree with my stomach so I stopped taking it. No problems quitting it and when I quit it everything went back to normal. Fast forward to four weeks ago when my Dr. put me on the extended release along with trulicity. Well I stopped taking the Metformin Wednesday and my last Trulicity dose was last Sunday. Well Friday I ate a high carb meal and I had an extreme bout of diarrhea which lasted all day Friday up until now. I still don’t feel good and I am having constant stomach cramps, anxiety, no appetite, feeling of I am not done when using the bathroom, watery stool. This is all four days after taking my last dose. I didn’t even feel this bad on the meds. Now I think it’s IBS and something got messed up. Anyone have any experience like this?

It’s all too easy when you have diabetes to blame it or the meds for any symptoms. Could it be that it’s totally unrelated and you have a stomach bug or food poisoning?

Meds that upset my stomach set off ibs for me, so you have my sympathy if it is ibs, as it's horrible. Colofac, which you can buy over the counter at the chemist is my go to help when my ibs plays up. Hope you feel better soon.

I don’t think it’s is. I know the medicine started the upset stomach. But it’s been staying for five days.

I think the medicine did that. Not saying it’s the medicines fault but I’m pretty sure my stomach is messed up. I think it is IBS. I’m so scared.

If it's IBS anxiety will make it worse unfortunately. We can't diagnose on here, so if it continues, maybe speak to the chemist and get their advice, or see if it's possible to speak to a nurse or gp (not easy at the moment though at some surgeries).

Thank you. I suffer from anxiety but never had stomach troubles until this medicine. My GP said he can’t diagnose me with IBS until I have three months of symptoms not three days. I will try to relax in the meantime.
