This 600kcal thing

check the net for the breakdown of ingredaints for Optifast and compare it with the optislim, its quite possible it will be the same as the sachets you have maybe same product just re-branded.
 
I think that Optifast and Optislim are very similar, Optislim is Lloyds' own cheaper brand of the same thing.

Optifast is also prescription only - possibly because it used to contain excessive chromium, or more likely because Nestlé want to keep the price high. You can get hold of Optifast on ebay, but it is very, very, expensive.

Let us know how you get on, especially with "spiking" after drinking the shakes, which contain 20g of carbs per serving.
 
The biggest difference seems to be that there is 10g more per serving of Optislim, meaning that a serving has more calories and more carbs than Optifast. If you used a bit less powder they'd be more or less the same...

Chromium, eh? I've read a LOT about the benefit of Chromium in BG control - maybe I'll suppliment with Chromium (cheap and readily available!) while doing the Optislim...

I've read that up to 1000ug of Chromium can be beneficial - I'll check how much chromium is in an Optifast shake.

Sounds like £42 well spent. That's the first (and apparently, most important) 2 weeks sorted. Hoe I can get enough at the 99p price to see me through a further 6 weeks.

8weeks on shakes is gonna be HARD. I san see me eating A LOT of steam fried/stir fried broccoli!!! :shock:

Prob work the same if you cant get hold of the Optifast :roll:
Keep the Kcal intake to around 600Kcal for the 8 weeks

Then use the program to slowly move up and back to healthy diet (food) also gain yerr goal weight

I think that they used Optifast in the study, because it has a proven record of reducing fat in the liver. It's used prior to bariatric surgery on morbidly obese people to rapidly reduce the size of the the liver, so that the surgeon has a little more elbow room when he's operating down there.

I don't know, but I'd wager that Patch's Optislim will do the same thing. It's 600kcal a day which is the critical thing, not some magic ingredient in Optifast. Both are designed to be complete Very Low Calorie Diets, so they should do an equivalent job of keeping you (just about) alive for 8 weeks.

I'm gonna give it a **** good go, though! :x

I'm expecting big things in the first 2 weeks. With a bit of luck, that'll give me the motivation to continue for the full 8 weeks as per the original study.

I'm quite certain, that once I've destroyed the fat surrounding my pancreas and my liver, I'll be able to maintain a healthy weight using what I have learned over the past few years.

Hopefully, this should be enough to STOP fat accumulating around those organs and putting me back to square one.

Wish me luck - I'm gonna need it!
 
The meal replacement bars are Ok if you nibble them or suck them makes them last longer
Try and eat on your own if you can,, its a killer watching someone else tucking into fish&chips
Drink glass water before your meal ,Will help you feel like you have had something larger

Gonna let this infection clear up first. The shakes are being delivered on Tuesday, so I imagine I'll start the "experiment" on the following Monday (26th July).
 
You're a gent - that is perfect! I did wonder what type of salads/soups they'd given to participants. Nice to know that I can keep on making and eating SOME real food.

Seriously, objectively I'm not convinced that this method will be as effective in all subtypes of people with T2 but I can understand why you're having a go and would love to be proved wrong.
At the very least, if you can stick it out, you should lose some weight and that's always a good thing.
