My evening meal readings:

Before. 5.9 (higher than normal)
1 hour after 7.4
2 hrs after 7.4
2.5 hrs after 7.4
3 hrs after 7.3

Then I gave up.

The meal was 22g carbs, 33g protein, 36g fat, give or take the odd gram. I can't decide if this is good or bad! Any suggestions?

I think that we have a googly every now and again and there appears to be no reason. Could you perhaps be a little tired or something similar ? So many little things can send our BGS awry.
Just keep an eye on it so,that it,does t get too out of,hand.



Late onset T1, several auto immune issues.
Humalogmix25 twice a day, Methotrexate 25mg once per week, FolicAcid 5mg once per week, prednisolone 5mg daily, Allopurinol 300mg, Calcichew-D3 800iu, Levothyroxine 50mcg, Atenolol 50mg, Losarten 100mg, Aspirin 75mg, Nicorandil 20mg, Nitrolingual GTN spray, Metformin 2000mg, Allimemazine 10mg, Lanzoprazole 30mg, Atorvastatin 20mg, Co Codamol 8/500mg, Depo Medrone (Methylprednisolone) or double Prednisolone for 7 days in case of RA flare.
 
It's not a big rise, 1.5 mmol/L, but it's a persistent one isn't it?

I agree that for any one-off, you just say that's life, unless it becomes a pattern.

I was just glad it wasn't a big spike and still under my own target of 7.8.

Could it have been the highish fat and low GI of the bread keeping the level flat for so long?
 
Could have been a possible under estimate of carbs ? the pre-meal 5.9 reading could have actually been a little higher given the 20% tolerance ( 7.1 ) ? May be a good idea to try the exact same meal again in the next few days and compare. As Alan suggested, sometimes Diabetes just doesn't play by the rules !
 
The carbs weren't underestimated greatly. Bread was 18, cherry toms 3. Maybe 1 in the mayo and 1 in the egg but unlikely. I intend to try the same meal again tomorrow lunch time. Thanks.
 
Be happy.. Under 7.8 and not a huge rise either..!!

You must factor in that meters are only a guide with up to 20% error... And really a guideline more than factual..

Don't become anal at analysing results otherwise diabetes will ruin your life by being all that matters... From 5.9 to 7.8 is good... If you were on a pump such as mine the minimum you can set your meal rise expectations to is 2.8!!

Seriously if you become too anal about rises like this you stand the chanceof becoming obsessed diabetes and living rather than living with diabetes .
You have to live with it.

I understand and agree with all you are saying. It wasn't the rise that puzzled me. I was very happy with it. It was the length of time it continued that puzzled me. A sort of plateau between 1 hour and 3 hours. I don't know if that is good or concerning, and I was just puzzled.
 
Glass noodles did something similar tom my bg. Or worse! Started on 4.4 or thereabout, 6,4 at one AND at two hours, 7.7 at three hours, 7.3 at four hours and 4.9 at five h. So decided glass noodles were not for me. I suppose this is what low GI does?
