This Morning Doctor on diabetes

I think I have received the best reply to date. They thank me etc for telling them about my son and realise it must be very hard for us both... don't have a son. perhaps they were a little pressurised by the number of comments after all?
If someone here did write in these terms and would like the text of the reply please pm me.l
 

In the interests of farness I should say I have now received an email from This Morning correcting the above wihout any further input from me..
 
I got the distinct impression that Phillip Schofield wanted to say more but he couldn't. I thought Dr Steele was really bad in this feature; he came across extremely judgmental and almost like he has a hatred for anyone with diabetes - whatever the type! Even when he was prompted/corrected re T1 - his response was almost like he was irritated at being corrected and his comment was almost with a tone of "yes... well.. that's neither here nor there... I hate all diabetics!" Imagine being diagnosed diabetic and he's your doctor?! Horrific!

My DN has told me about a number of patients with T2 - one who is a personal trainer and hasn't been overweight in his life! He's as healthy as you can get. Another girl who is tiny - size 8 and again, very healthy. In fact my DN looked back at my records because due to surgery and stuff, I've had my blood taken a lot over the last couple of years so it's only been recently that my T2 has come on; my DN actually said that she believed my diabetes may have been triggered following my surgery and/or a period on anti-depressants and severe hormonal changes following my surgery (had a hysterectomy) - she said herself that the triggers are numerous and not all known.

I'm all for a doctor on TV discussing the risks of obesity, unhealthy lifestyle etc... however for a doctor to sit there and assert that T2 diabetes is SOLELY a lifestyle choice condition and talk with such disgust about diabetic patients, and have to be corrected and kept under control by a television presenter (good on Phillip Schofield - I'm aware of his involvement with DUK and he is someone who makes sure he knows what he's talking about)... that was just appalling!
 
The This Morning programme just gets worse. Today Roger Moore said he'd recently been diagnosed with diabetes & Eamonn Holmes said 'the good thing with diabetes is you lose weight' ........WHAT....you've developed this terrible condition but look on the bright side, at least you've lost weight...arggggg...vent over!

The trick is to not take them seriously. It's slightly more upmarket than Jeremy Kyle. It is the television equivalent of Heinz Spaghetti Hoops, instant, cheap and out of a can. Just don't believe that it is authentic and full of goodness however it is presented.
