I am very new to this group. And might I add very glad to be here. My situation started 19 years ago..Prior to Gall bladder surgery I had a routine Blood test. AAt that time my Blood sugar came back at 235 Mg / Dl...After fasting overnight. At that time the misery began..I was prescribed Metformin..Absolutely no mention of Low carb or dietary restrictions..NONE..The Next several years saw many..many blood tests and medication Changes..all the while with no mention of diet..I then Moved to the city (baltimore) With my wife after a new job opportunity...This prompted a change in my Dr. Same situation..heres a new pill..Try this..? then on to GLP 1 inhibitors..They worked well..However after retiring and going on Medicare..Its was not covered and the out of pocket cost was just to much to afford..So my dr puts me on Insulin along with 20 mgs of glipizide...Along with 2000 mgs of Metformin..The daily injections Did lower my Blood sugar..However while on Insulin I literally could not stop eating..I gained 15 Pounds in about 6 weeks...At this time I happened to catch a Youtube video..made by a Dr..Robert Lustig...Explaining how the Current treatment for type 2 was Flawed..So I dug into this rabbit hole...And Wow what did I discover..The biggest thing was the fact that Our bodies DO NOT need any Carbohydrate consumption at all...And Type 2 was reversable with diet and excersise..I continued my research and came across dr Ken Berry...Dr Berry is a leading proponent of the Keto / carnivore way of eating....So I dove in...Stopped all carbs and just ate protein and Fat..10 days passed and I stopped all Insulin injections..Another week passed and I stopped all Glipizide...And I cut my Metformin back to 1000mgs..I have lost 50 ponds and feel so much better..My goal is to Stop all Drugs and just use diet to control my Blood sugar...Two days ago I cut my metformin back to 500mgs per day..And I will continue to very closely monitor my Blood sugar..Its is so very cold outside and walking...My favorite exercise is not very much fun..So its wall pushups and squats until the weather improves...I am so very glad that I found this forum...Finally I can interact with folks in the same situation as I..The point being...Our current Medical Systems approach to type two I believe is completely driven by Pharmeceutical profits...I worked for a major Pharmacuetical company for 12.5 years..And I can attest to the fact that cures to diesease are NOT their priorities...Long term Maintenance drugs are the back bone of their existance...So in conclusion after 19 years of Pills and drugs...The most powerful approach to Type two is what we eat..Period..! Why this is not the first line of treatment for type two is truly a question for the wise men..And in my opinion it is digusting and borders on being criminal...Best wishes to all..with the hope that perhaps I had help some one else...!
