Three course meal and good blood sugar.....advice needed!'

Folks, this is for reassurance really

I've just had three courses at a pub with my folks for Mother's Day which ended in me eating half a treacle sponge. When I checked my blood an hour later it was 6.7, how can this be?? I injected 11mls insulin before hand but was expecting a higher reading. Can anyone explain this to me?

Could well be that the treacle sponge effect wont kick in fully till later....
Never have it, guess it may depend what 11 mls was injected, what your levels normally are, I dont lnow anything about fat content of treacle pie either. If it doesnt react later... Go back and eat the other half!!!-lol!

I usually eat brilliantly. I've only been diagnosed for 5 weeks and this is the first treat I've had. It seems too good to be true!!

I wish I'd eaten the whole one now, and not shared one with my grandad!!! :)

Good for you... Good that you don't think you are condemned to a life without puddings or treats..... Whats more you got good result!!!

Hi. I also had a high-carb 3 course Mothers Day meal including a very sweet dessert. I started the day around 4mmol having had my one-a-day insulin at bedtime. 2 hours after the meal I was 12.5mmol. 5 hours later having also had 'only a 35gm carb muffin I was 22 mmol! So, I wonder whether your carbs were taking more than 2 hours to reach a peak and subside as mine obviously were? The moral for me is don't have high carb 3 course meals, which I already knew, or increase my insulin regime to include fast-acting.

Well I tested again 2 hours later and it was 7.9. Maybe I just chose okay with my first 2 courses!! The treacle sponge would've been worth a higher reading!! It was delicious!! :) x
