lol

excess of anything is not good but I can think of worse things to have a blowout on

The only answer to that is - what does the meter say?

When I have salad I have 4 cherry tomato's so not a huge amount. 50g of cherry toms are 2g of carbs, so you can work out you "a lot" from that.

Football. Bad manners.
Tomatoes are a fruit so they do contain some sugar. Also they can be acid, which can affect the stomach. Check your meter.

On the other hand they are full of vitamins and minerals, and also something that I'm too tired (or old? ) to remember the name of just now, which is good for eyesight, so as MaryJ says, there are worse things to have a blow-out on! :D I wouldn't do it every day, though . . .

Can you tell us ho many tomatoes is A Lot please?

I used to grow tiny tomatoes and eat them by the pound, but I can only get away with a few at one time now.

Absolutely right Viv. I checked my little site and 50g of cherry toms contain 2g of sugar along with the 2g of carbs.

Reading this thread gave me a mental picture of people shopping in the supermarket , looking at individual items and then shaking their heads and saying "meter says no".! Must be the meformin.

Not so far from reality. I have an app on my phone allowing me to walk around the supermarket and scan barcodes to tell me if the product has gluten in it (I'm also coeliac) and it works for other allergies too.

That sounds great Robert. I am allergic to red peppers and most people woiuld be surprised at how many products contain these nowadays. My sight is so poor that scannning a bar code would be an easier option han trying to read the lists of ingredients.
Spectacles make hings worse for me so I have to use a magnifying glass but because of the lighting and the angle of the lighting in shops this is often worse than useless. I have to rely on my husband who always seems to have wandered off just as I need hinm to read something for me.

Can this app be se to warn you of he excessive carbs oo?

Can anyone tell me if eating a LOT of Tomatoes is bad for me? I mean a lot! Thanx xx

A lot could mean anything really so how many is a lot?
I see you are following the Newcastle diet and there are other veggie soups and things that you can make. Ask in the Newcastle thread what others have done to keep the hunger pangs away. There is quite a lot to read on the thread.

Hi Unbeliever

The app can tell you if the product contains: 'gluten, wheat, peanut, tree nut, fish, shellfish, milk, egg, soybean, celery, mollusc, mustard, sesame seed, sulphite or lupin'. It basically checks the barcode against a database. It's great in theory but the reality is that it often says 'Product not found' so it's little more than a gimmick. I'd stick with the magnifying glass.

Thanx everyone - By a lot I mean 2 or 3 tins daily OR 6 large fresh tomatoes. It doesn't affect my b/s reading but I suppose what I meant was could it be affecting my health in general. I have had Gall Bladder pain for about a week now & it could be the acid that Viviennem mentioned. :?

I have never been able to eat tomatoes. I used to thi it was the acid and it may well have been but they are of the same family as red peppers to which I am definitely allergic.
I cant rink acidic wines either. Seems to be the colour red - tomatoeds red peppers red wine. Funny I ate peppers for years and just suspected Ithat they gave me mild indigestion. In the end thay almos killed me- and were responsile for my diabetes diagnosis,
Its probably best always to listen to your body. I know some people think food intolerance is all in the mind but why risk So best cut down perhaps.making yourself ill.?

 I do shop to my meter. I know what I can and can't have so tend to stick to the same things, with an added food item now and then to see how it goes. Once my meter food is done, then I shop for my daughters and dogs

Many people are sensitive to natural chemicals such as salicylates and amines in fruit and vegies and other foods. I would be suspicious of any food that you absolutely love and must have, as addiction is common and causes all sorts of minor and major health problems. Worth looking into.
