Tooth extraction

So I had a molar out the other day. Five injections of novacaine. The morning after I felt really awful. Fuzzy head, nauseas, hot then cold, went a horrible grey colour. Really thought I was about to expire! Having only recently been diagnosed type 1 diabetic I naturally associate everything to the condition hence an ambulance was called. Bs levels were fine, vitals were good. They had no real explanation. Has anyone else experienced this. Could it have been delayed shock from having the tooth out?

Not had that experience but I'm T2, however, I had large back molar extracted 3 week ago last Friday - got dry socket and horrific pain - lived on antibiotics and painkillers for 2 weeks. You have my sympathy - not a nice experience. Hopefully someone can answer your question.

Hi @Jonman - I had 2 wisdom teeth removed in one go about 3 weeks ago now, I had about 8-10 injections (lost count to be honest) so was completely numb including my tongue, my BS levels were also fine throughout however the next day my levels ran around 4-5 all day, I had a libre sensor on so could see it was virtually a flat line, I think the stress can cause havoc as you're on adrenaline throughout the procedure and the knock on effect can impact your body afterwards.

I suppose if you end up with a hole the size of the Grand Canyon in your gum, your body is not going to like it!
I guess yours didn't. From what I have seen of it, it is not a certainty after a triggering event. It seems quite random and usually comes as a surprise to the person suffering. It can get you some hours after the event also.

Mine Didnt trouble till some hours later - when it kicked in it did so big time - required 2 subsequent visit. Yes, shock to the system bound to affect BS levels.

I do not have diabetes
I can include Some side effects of tooth extraction :

  • a small amount of bleeding till 24 hours after the surgery
  • dry tooth socket or alveolar bone exposure
  • damage to nearby teeth
  • an incomplete extraction of the tooth
  • stiffness and soreness in the jaw due to the injections and keeping the mouth open for too long
