I've just been diagnoses with Type 2 and am yet to see the diabetic nurse. In the meantime, I have been told a million different things from a million different people! The Dr told me that it's 'mild diabetes' as I've just nudged over from pre-diabetic to diabetic with my bloods.

So.... some people say keto.
Others say no fats!
Some say, just eat normally but cut down on carbs
I've heard that I need to have 130g of protein a day.
Bananas are banned.
Bananas are great !
Hmmm.... maybe have half a banana

I'm soooooo confused! Would anyone be able to tell me what they generally eat on a day to day basis? Many thanks :)

Many of our members use a glucose meter (sadly, most have to self fund) to test before and after meals to see what that meal did to their blood glucose.
It's a very helpful tool, as the meter is unbiased and simply shows what is and not what it believes.

That said, I think the larger part of our members have good result with cutting the carbs. Some go full out keto or even carnivore, but many more just lower the carbs and get good results. With your hba1c just over the diabetes threshold you might find adjusting just a couple of your eating habits do the trick. :)

There is a massive thread where we share our meals, it will take you days to read it all! ;)

Hi ANNIEK2022, Welcome to the forums.

Yes diabetes can be very confusing for most of us but here we are talking to fellow diabetics be it type 1 or type 2, so talking to people who have been there and done it. I've only been here for just a few weeks but have learned more in those weeks than I did in the past 12+ years and now it's not so confusing.

I totally agree with Antje77, get yourself a blood glucose meter and test on waking (fasting), before a meal and 2 hours after the first bite. This will tell you what spikes you and what doesn't in other words what is safe to eat and what you need to cut down ot cut out of your diet. I am trying the low carb diet and it is working well for me and there is plenty of info all around these forums on it. Full fat yogurt, cheese, meats & chicken and above ground veg all good for you, and just a few carbs a day is helping me and I never seem to go hungry.

Looking forward to hearing how you get on :)

Most diabetics have no problem with fat, it is the carbs. Protein is fine, eat as much or as little as makes you feel right.
Many fruits have been altered, bred to be high in carb. Even things like tomatoes have been altered to be sweeter. Tomatoes are fruit, botanically, like cucumbers and many other things in the vegetable aisle.
I was far into the realms of diabetes at diagnosis, so I tend to eat very few carbs, 40 gm per day at the most. I eat two meals a day, two proper meals most of the time as anything with cereal is not on my menu.

, I have been told a million different things from a million different people!
But none of those million people have your body!
I agree, get a meter, learn which foods your body can cope with and which it can't. It's so easy once you see it with your own eyes.
You are only interested in yourself, not the million!

What a fabulous answer :)

If we all trained like Bolt, how disappointed would we all be with the results :wideyed::arghh:

Fully agree on the meter.

You just don't know unless you test :)
And seeing IS definitely believing.
