Hi, Can anyone tell me where I can purchase a travel box / bag for pens and insulin cartridges. I want a box which is hard and won't get crushed. Most travel cases seem to be made of material and I'm worried that the insulin cartridges may get crushed. Alternatively, any other suggestions for travel with pens and cartridges would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Leggott,

My type 1 friends tell me that the Desang kitbags are great as you can keep all the paraphernalia in one place. But always carry your insulin and kit in your hand luggage, NEVER in the hold luggage. Apart from the rough handling and crushing that hold luggage is subject to, the hold in most aircraft is not heated and your insulin can freeze, which makes it unuseable. When going through embarkation security you may be asked to show proof that you are diabetic, such as a letter from your doctor stating that you must be allowed to keep your insulin with you in the plane.

I got a lovely classic desang kitbag from medicalshop.co.uk and only cost just over £30, you have to tick a box on line to say you have diabetes and then you don't pay vat, it's a good site and I have just ordered one of their kit bags which keep insulin cool they also do test strips at quite reasonable prices for people who can't get or get too little on prescription

Why pay so much?!? I use an appropriate size sandwich / food box, which can be placed in a fridge when possible, clear so anyone can see contents - around £1 for a couple of boxes. Or, if I'm really concerned abotu physically protecting insulin cartridges, I use a stainless steel vaccuum flask - several sizes are available, from approx 0.3 to 1.0 litre, from about £5 each.
