Travel insurance with diabetes

Hi I’m looking for some advice on travel insurance companies that people have used that aren’t robbing.
All the ones I have been seeing are stupidly high amounts (£3-500) opposed to (£100) when not disclosing diabetes. Does anyone know of any companies that aren’t stupidly high costs as I need the insurance but don’t know that I can afford 300+ for it. Thanks any advice would be great.

Hi @SJ_F and welcome to the forums

I don't know if they use the same algorithm but it might be worth getting a quote from covermore.co.uk (I used the nz branch and was happy with an extra 10% weighting on my policy for my T1, plus a few other conditions. (Though this was an annual policy that included my partner, who has no medical weightings).

Mind you, at your age I could use a company that ignored your diabetes as long as your hba1c was less than a certain amount, maybe 8% in old hba1c money?

Thanks Ellie,
I’ll definitely give them a look, thank you for the suggestion. I’ve not seen any company’s that offer to ignore diabetes with a good hba1c so I didn’t even know that that was thing but I’ll try searching it. I think mine was around the 6.5/7 mark when I had it done a few weeks ago. Thanks for advice really appreciate it!

Before covid always used Insure and Go - most times got annual insurance for about the £140 for just me.

This time needed to use Allclear as partner on a waitlist for a hip so pretty sure it will not happen before our planned trip wanted to make sure we were covered. The price without the waitlist for the both of us was £160 for a single trip as you couldn't do an annual cover with the wait list option.

Yes T1.

I have always used AllClear.
It is more expensive than the usual suspects but I prefer to pay that for peace of mind.
Diabetes UK used to have an offer with them. I haven't checked for a while because they usually offer a discount on renewal - I have annual cover as I travel frequently for work.

My wife and I have used a company called insurance with twice this year , with my wife's recent cancer diagnosis we thought it would be unaffordable but the first to Rhodes in may cost us £48 and have just been on a cruise to Norway which cost us £76 and that included me with my type 1 diabetes .

I haven’t used them but my friend who has heart failure as well as other serious health conditions uses Allclear every year.

I used a price comparison site (Compare the market, I think, but checked several) , as a T2 not on insulin 2 weeks cover for France has cost me about £25, and this wasn't the cheapest cover, and make sure you have a valid GHIC too

We use AllClear as my OH has various conditions inc A.Fib and a pace maker. Staysure and Insureandgo also cover pre existing conditions. We’ve just paid £360.00 for cover on a fortnights cruise.

Thanks for this I’m having a look. Just to check is the site called “insurance with twice” only I’m struggling to see anything when I’m searching
