Hello all, and please forgive my lack of research on this particular subject.
(Which is basically me being a rather 'untechy' person, terrible excuse I know.)

Quick background, in case it helps? Diagnosed in C 1998 went to constant Dr's appointments as required then gave up because the Surgery kept writing to me to say 'there is no Nurse now available we'll need to rearrange'. Then I suffered an accident just over 2 years ago and developed Sepsis, my wife called the GP as I was talking gibberish and he discoved I had a 'black' middle toe. He immediately called for an Ambulance and I ended up in hospital awaiting an amputation. Anyway, that was all done after 2 years of treatment from the Podiatrists it's healed, for now!

So, my question is, we are going away in 3 weeks to Mexico and I was wondering if anyone can suggest a reasonable company to request a Medical Insurance quote from? I've travelled there 3 times previously and in fact all over the world however, never bothered getting specific 'D2' insurance, stupid I know. Due to my operation and age, 49, I am now looking for a competitive quote. My wife & Daughter do not require any special insurance so, would it be better to insure myself alone and allow the others to get their own?

Many thanks.

MAH.

Hi @MAH1975 & welcome to the forum, :)

Members aren’t allowed to recommend individual companies etc as it’s classed as advertising which isn’t allowed on the forum, this is a page from the DCUK website you may find useful

Also although this thread in the link below isn’t about travel insurance it has a couple of useful links posted by our members

I fully understand that, but I was just looking for personal feedback not endorsements!

Cheers.

For what it's worth, when I get insurance (T1 self and husband with no medical conditions) I just pay an extra fee to cover my pre existing conditions. You may (or may not) find that your diabetes is already automatically covered by the policy, provided you have a low enough hba1c , though I suspect your DKA and sepsis may need to be declared. (They usually ask questions such as how many unexpected hospital admissions have you had in the last 2 years?)

I use various price comparison websites (money supermarket, compare the market etc), always declare ALL conditions when asked, otherwise the insurance company can refuse to pay out. 1 week in France from the UK earlier this year was about £11.00

I've noticed at this year's renewal that travel insurers medical underwriters are now adding if you've visited the gp for anything in the past 12 months in addition to everything else! Make sure you declare everything.

On a second point I don't know why this forum bans recommendations. It's commonsense telling genuine posters from spammers. I've reported a post from a poster whose only thread was a supplement recommendation, it's still there! Now that to me was highly suspicious.

Thanks all for your helpful replies.

I always disclose everything as I don't want to get stuck somewhere with no cover!

@ Jo123, I too find that a little frustrating, I wasn't looking for specific endorsements just what people had found to be their best method for getting a result. Possibly a bot picking up on certain trigger words, who knows?

Cheers.

Apologies on my post above, It comes across as misleading and I have worded it badly,

What I should have said is

Members are only allowed to recommend individual companies etc provided there is no personal connection to the company(ies) and no financial gain involved since this is classed as advertising which isn’t allowed on the forum,

Of course, forum members need to be able to rely on bona fide recommendations for goods and services given by other forum members.

Once again apologies for the confusion

I have used Stay Sure, they didn’t seem to penalise me for having various health problems, as they charged my husband the same and he has no health conditions. I can’t vouch for how they deal with claims though as fortunately we didn’t have to.

My husband and I have travel insurance through Philip Williams insurance brokers. Although I'm not diabetic (was pre diabetic and have maintained normal blood glucose ever since) I have other medical conditions. Prices are very good and we have claimed twice over the years with no issues. I've looked elsewhere and the quote was literally over double.

Thanks all for the help and I shall look into all of your suggestions, I'm travelling with my wife & daughter whom both have no issues so hopefully I will be able to get a good quote with them included!

I'll let you know how I get on, still have 3 weeks so...

Cheers.

Declare everything.
We found no difference in whether t2 was in control or not. They were only interested if on insulin or not. Not on insulin raised annual premium by £30, on insulin by £60.

Hi, MrsA2. My wife was saying earlier that was one of the sites she was looking at that were only interested in insulin.

I'll let you good people know before we go.

Cheers.

@MAH1975 Please get it asap - if (god forbid) something happens (and not just to you) and you can't go you'll lose all your money. Travel Insurance should be taken out as soon as the holiday is booked
Hi, lessci I hear you, will be done this weekend.

Thankyou to all that gave your advice/help.

We didn't manage to get anything for under£203.00 for the 3 of us (Money Supermarket.) There was one price that was asking for over £500!

Thanks again.
