Travel requirements when carrying needles and insulin

Could anyone advise what I need to do when carrying my pen needles and insulin on an aircraft? I'm going to South Africa in May and America in September. Obviously the needles are an issue but so too is the insulin being in liquid form.

Thanks

Stuart

Rude people !
I've never had any issues carrying needles/insulin on flights. Itake a letter from my doc stating all the meds I'm on but never been asked to show it. I think Airport Security are used to seeing these meds. I do let them know though when I put bag through.

Thanks Mo1905. Thought it was going to present difficulties but not so.

Yes, carry a letter from the GP or DN and also a copy of your prescription

I travel probably 2 weeks a month or more on average, and fly at least 30 times a year. I've only been asked to show my letter once in the last 9 months.

I've had my stuff looked at once or twice, but only because it wasn't obvious on the x-rays.

Always carry these on/with you in your hand luggage .

Have letter as proof of necessary for your sharps/needles .
Insulin will/can freeze in the baggage hold on aircrafts .

Take enough supply with you in case of any mishaps .

Frio wallets are great to safetly store and keep cool your liquid insulin .
Variety of colour and sizes of wallets choices .
Forgot to mention of these in my post above .

I use these and have found them ideal too .
Only needs water to reactivate the keep cool gel crystals .
Soak in a bathroom sink - towel dry .
Pop in your insulin cartridges/pens and or even eye pipettes [I have these]

Place in travel bag/rucksack .

If your travelling with a partner make sure you split your supplies up, that way if one bag goes missing you still have enough to see you through until you get a prescription sorted.

I have a letter from my doctor. Whenever I go away I don't have any worry as I just show them the letter and they understand. Sometimes they don't always read it and my bags get searched but then they understand anyway :)
