I am having a false hypo now, at 5.9. I'm hoping to sit it out but should they be treated or not?

Strange since I was just talking about them earlier.

NO......relax and have a cuppa or listen to some soothing music. If you 'treat' it your Bg levels will rise again. Does this mean your Bg levels have been high recently ?

ahem haven't tested too much recently but fasting levels have been between 4.9 - 5.8. I'm 5.6 now. Feeling shaky, jittery, hot and sweaty and can't concentrate enough to read a post.

I'm not going to say anything about the testing........

Drink some plain water, that's what I used to do if I ever got one. Now b****r off ....... :D

Hi Daisy - not sure if you are a lady of a "certain age" - but I am perimenopausal and my symptoms with that are exactly like my hypo symptoms (or so **** near you would be pushed to tell the difference! ) sweats, tingly face, shakey, brain like mushed cauliflower etc etc

I too often feel like I am having a hypo when in fact I am in the low 5's when I test - I do test a few times a day anyway so know I have good control.

I tried this argument with my GP to get test strips but he wouldn't have the fact that if I treated what felt like a hypo when it wasn't I would be running high BS - I tried to convince him that I need to test to make sure I am doing the right thing - but they don't give strips to T2's that are on meds (except insulin)- be it they are hypo inducing meds  - will continue to buy my own as I value my good health - just wish I had the wealth to go with it

Hi Viv - thanks for caring. :) I had a drink then went to bed still with jelly legs. Strangely still feel a bit shaky this morning so perhaps its not BG related at all. Fasting 5.2 which is a little lower than my average. It could be having gone down from more than 80g to less than 50g carbs a day suddenly that did it.
Have a nice day :)

Hi lovinglife - I'm not at perimenopausal age so it can't be that. Symptoms similar to what you describe especially the mushed cauliflower (good way of explaining it) which is also still here this morning. Lucky I don't have to drive until this afternoon. I have a bit of a strips problem too but my main problem is being disorganised and forgetful :( I know what I should be doing though  Wake up call: vow to do better in future. Now at least I know not to treat when I get one.
Have a nice day :)

daisy,

Normally if your control is good it's unusual to experience a false hypo with a level of 5.9 and this may have been unrelated to your diabetes, anyways hope you are feeling much by now! :)

Hi Nigel :) Yes I am feeling better at the moment but didn't feel too good this morning. Ken suggests, and he is probably right, that it's carbohydrate withdrawal from having just cut my level of carbs (he also had other ideas like perhaps I'm sickening for something - I'll have to wait and see on that one - but I think carbohydrate withdrawal is the one). So it won't last long...I hope.
ATB :)

Does this mean your Bg levels have been high recently ?

Here is an example of my levels:

On 80-90 carbs a day - 25 Feb:
Fasting (immediately after getting up) 5.7
2 hours after breakfast 5.9
Before lunch 5.9
2 hours after 8.1 (oh dear cheese fondue a rare treat :( The alcohol that goes with it reduced the levels  )
Before supper 5.8
2 hours after 6.0
No before bed reading as it's often around the same time as 2 hours after supper.

On around 45g carbs a day: (yesterday)
Fasting 5.2
6.1 2 hours after breakfast
Before lunch 5.9
2 hours after lunch 5.5
Before supper 5.6
2 hours after 6.2

So I don't see any change in levels from my change of diet, or anything that could cause hypo-like symptoms. In fact I'm very pleased with my levels (when I don't eat cheese fondue 8) ). No drop in levels from drop in carbs. Only weight :) Drawn a blank there. With levels always like these it didn't seem worth testing very often and using up my precious and inadequate allowance of strips. I can also supply details of what I ate if necessary. After eating something new I always test to see what it does. Felt funny on and off yesterday but today I'm fine so far (although it is very early in the morning  ). I think perhaps my problems are unrelated to diabetes.

My OP was written after supper.

Impressive readings daisy for both carb amounts, as you feeling shakey and unwell on the lower figure why not take the middle figure and aim for 60-70g of carbs a day and see if this makes you feel better.

Nigel

Thanks Nigel :) Yes I could try that especially as I had a 4.6 before lunch today which, bearing in mind possible meter inaccuracy, could be a bit low. It's actually now, just after lunch (@20 mins) that I feel shaky.
