Treating a hypo

Hi, I was told by my diabetes nurse that if I had a hypo just before a meal I didn't need to treat it and could carry on with my meal, but I'm currently in hospital and tested 3.2 before breakfast. I wasn't going to treat it but the nurse got all mad and said I had to treat the hypo first. Plus I was told that I needed to treat the hypo but not back up with carbohydrates as I'm on a pump is that right?? And my last question is that I put my infusion set in my boob from time to time but my diabetes specialist went mad and said she never recommended that so why would I do it? But my sugars aren't effected and it's not painful so why would I not?

You need to treat the hypo so the nurse was right.

On my pump training I was told to use 15g of glucose to treat a hypo, assume this is the standard advice for pump users. The only time that I follow up with a carby snack is when I have still have active insulin on board (for example if I hypo within a couple hours of bolusing).

The lady pump users like @azure @Mrsass will help you with the infusion set question.

I use a pump and tend to have 1-2 jellybabies or tsp of sugar if bg is less than 4mmol before a meal but . I also try to remember to knock 5g carb off my bolus dose for the meal as glucose causes a false rise which doesn't last long so no good doing a bolus for a full amount of carb.
Never fancied injecting into my boobs as would be a bit worried about starting off something nasty but my boobs are small anyway.

Firstly I have never and would never inject/place my infusion set on my breast, the thought alone makes me feel quite ill!!!

Secondly, if I was hypo before my breakfast I would put a 50% reduced temp basal on for one hour and take one or two glucose tablets, then test again about 15 mins later to check the hypo had subsided before proceeding to bolus for any breakfast. :-) I was always told by my DSN that if hypo, put a 50% reduced basal on my pump, have 10-15g fast acting glucose depending on how severe the hypo and then mop up any lingering insulin with slower acting carbs such as a banana or biscuit. :-)
