Trouble with weight

I've had trouble with my weight and my diabetes I used to skip my insulin to lose weight and I never had help and still struggle now

Hi

The way to lose weight and still use insulin is to eat less food and adjust your insulin accordingly so that your bg levels still remain ok. If you eat food without insulin, then your bg levels will go high and although you will lose weight, you will also find yourself developing all sorts of medical problems including blood vessel damage to the eyes, damage to the way you digest food, damage to your feet........ Do I need to go on. Therefore..... please dont do it.

Hi. You say you haven't had any help, perhaps it might be worth getting some. I saw a dietician a few months back. I expected lots of detail of what I should and shouldn't be eating, but it was more like therapy, and it really helped me see things differently.

And remember, when you start to get your insulin and blood sugars balanced you will put on weight at first. Up until now you have been malnourished so if things start going right then you'll gain weight. So don't panic. I'd suggest you try to concentrate on getting your blood sugars better, then tackle your weight later. Good luck.

I agree with czj. Get into balance and then start to control the carbs and gradually reduce the insulin measuring your blood sugar along the way. Set yourself a target of, say, 150gm/day where possible and have low-GI carbs and sometimes with fat as that slows absorption

That's right, burn more calories than you consume and the weight will eventually drop off, just eating 100 less calories a day can make a big difference over the long term.

You need to reduce your insulin so you can eat less and therefore lose weight.

What sort of Insulin regime are you on?

Insulin is also used by the body to build fat stores. If you eat fewer carbs (and therefore fewer calories) you will need less insulin, you will create less fat and burn some of it off. With diabetes you are in a high risk group for cardiovascular disease even if you hit the 6.5% hba1c target. So a bit of cardio will help with your weight and reduce your cardiovascular disease risk.
