I'm really sticking to a Low Carb Low Fat and very low Salt eating regime.Done a week now and keeping my diary.I'm usually between 7.0 and 8.5 on waking, but then, after meals go up to 12.6 or 13.00 .I'm averaging between 8.6 and9.9 some days but the lowest I've managed was 7.9.Do you know if my BP is high, which it is at the moment and my Angina is bothering me,can that make any difference to my Numbers?someone at the Clinic yesterday, when I went for an ECG, and was Type 2 said she thought it did.I'm so glad you suggested that I get a meter and started testing but I've tried changing my food choices and have been very careful reading labels etc,but I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do. :?:

That sounds like quite a restrictive diet. What are you eating? have you ruled out any foods (by testing after eating) yet?

Virginia.
You mention high BP and Angina, an ECG ? All these things can be causing you stress and that in itself will have an effect on your BG numbers. The silent effect we sometimes talk about.

As for your diet, not sure I would call it restrictive as we don't really know what it consists of, depends what you are actually eating and the quantity.

I am eating no more than 40-50g carbs per day at the moment, low fat, low salt. Pretty much the same thing, it allows me excellent Bg control on a daily basis.

So, like Patch asked.......what are you eating, when are you testing, timing and such like.
Might help us all to give you some better ideas. :)

I'm testing before meals and 2 hours after. My meals are something like this Bkfst: Scrambled eggs or slice of bacon and a grilled tomato.Or a soya yogurt and Banana.I only have 2 bananas a week at most.Lunch:Tuna open Sandwich,or a bowl of homemade vegetable soup,or baked beans on a slice of Rye toast.Mid afternoon I have a piece of fruit usually apple or pear with a piee of cheese.Dinner.grilled fish or chicken or lamb steak with eg: Spinach ,cabbage, courgettes, squash etc usually 2 veg Then finish with Stewed fruit or Soya fruit yoghurt.I'm supposed to have food with my Meds which I have to take last thing at night.I find it hard to choose what to have so its usually a digestive biscuit or some yohhurt,I have something because I've 8 to 10 tabs to take and my stomach sounds like the Halle Orchestra !Thats it really,I have my meals on a smaller plate than everyone else and have about a cupful of each veg.I've also learnt from reading posts that I don't have to Empty my plate!!it's only taken me 60 years to learn that :) Thanks for your help, really appreciated.

That looks pretty **** healthy to me. Personally I can't touch bananas. They make my blood go too high. Baked beans are also pretty high in sugar AND carbs... (I sure missBaked Beans!)

Not too sure about the stewed fruit either. That may be giving you high readings if you're having it every day.

I have found that apples and pears give me fairly high spikes and stewed fruit worst of all even though no added sugar, so maybe you could try other fruit to see how those affect you.

Hi Virginia, do you get high readings after eating baked beans and bread ? Some can eat these some can't. The only sure way is to test.

Apples and pears are higher in carbs than softer fruit, which I prefer, I do like an apple and cheese for breakfast though. How do you stew your fruit ?

It may be that some of the medications you take could also be affecting your blood sugars. Are the meds at night anti-diabetic drugs or are they for other conditions ?

Hi Sue yes Bread I'm trying to keep away from and have only been having a couple of times a week.I've stopped potatoes too, they really do give me high numbers! When I stew fruit I do apples in the Microwave with a little XyloBrit Pears I put in water with a Star Anise a little Xylo and lemon rind and simmer for about 10 minutes I think I've just got to carry on experimenting. This time in the afternoon is awful I'm almist falling asleep writing this and know I'll sleep for about an hour and a half when I go to sit down,I'm just so tired. My meds at night are my Beta Blockers ,Pre Gabalin and Cymbalta for the Autonomic Neuropathy,Atorvastatin and now I'm taking Co-Codamol too instead of Tramadol which has been stopped because it wasn't giving me any Pain Relief for the Neuropathy .Thanks for the advise,I'll try different Fruits.

Virginia.
You mention Xylitol (Xylobrit)
Serving Size: 1 Tspn, Calories: 12, Fat: 0g, Carbs: 12g, Protein: 0g

That is for one teaspoon........that is very high.

You might want to consider changing it to Splenda which has only 0.5g carbs per teaspoon......only 2 cals per teaspoon.......a considerable difference.

Hi Virginia,

Beta blockers, Pregabalin and Atorvastatin can all affect your blood sugars. You should discuss this with your doctor as obviously you need these drugs but the fact they affect your blood sugar control should also be taken into consideration.

There may be altenatives to these, but it would depend on the effectiveness of the drugs you are on as to whether it would be worth changing.
