I drink a warm turmeric drink 5 days a week and also take metformin with no adverse effects. Should not be taken with blood thinning medicines though. A study suggests that for maximum benefits, turmeric is better when used in cooking and combined with fats. Taking tablets did not give as much benefit.Hi
Can you tell me if it's ok to take tumeric capsules if I'm taking Metformin tablets?
I want to include more turmeric in my diet and am intrigued by the idea you might just sprinkle it in your tea or an omelette. When I first married a friend taught me how to cook curry and took me to an indian supermarket. The ladty shopkeeper emphasised we must cook the turmeric well or we would get stomach aches. This was 40 years ago so maybe the nature of the turmeric on sale has changed. Do you sprinkle, buy a particular brand (I am using rajah) or cook it beforehand? The compressed type of tablets are not as good as real turmeric..
I just been to a talk by a Professor (Oncologist) who thinks outside NHS guidelines.
He did research and studies paid for by govt to find out best food for health.. turmeric, broccoli, pomegranate and green tea. From this research they then dried these products without adding chemicals under strict research guidelines. These tablets proved beneficial for cancer patients (tested on males with cancer). These tablets were then produced under strict quality control for the public. Originally made in UK but now Switzerland.
The tablets are called pomi-t.
I take turmeric in my tea with milk, black pepper, cinammon and ginger. I drink mountains of it. I also buy a specific recommended tea. I dont like green tea so buy tea called 'masala chai" by tea india (in Tesco) as it is tea, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, black pepper, anise. Alot of other supposed healthy chai teas have awful added ingredients.
I sprinkle turmeric n pepper in omelette with cheese n broccoli, fish n broccoli pie etc.
I dont know if you can take with metformin, but I'm guessing so as he also said metformin research was showing positive to help cancer....
That is good to know. I shall give it a try this morning by adding turmeric to my omelette. I need to work my way up to the tea. I understand black pepper is some sort of miracle food that helps turmeric perform its magic. One thing I can definitely say is it doesnt upset stomachs! Infact for me with previous chronic stomach/colon probs it is helping. What doesnt help my stomach is anything with tomatoes or onions.
Its so easy to add to food and even in tablet form it should be ate with food and some form of black pepper.
I was hooked on coffee, but now hooked on my special tea instead.
How about this drink? It's delicious. I have it with almond milk and a pinch of Truvia. That is good to know. I shall give it a try this morning by adding turmeric to my omelette. Wonderful. That paste sounds perfect. With warm milk as that is the only way I have been able to stomach milk since I was milk monitor at Junior school. I take my tea and coffee unsweetened and black too. I might get adventurous and try those other milks one day. I put turmeric in an omelette this morning which tasted a bit wierd. I am going to try it with mushroom omelette made with lots of butter tomorrowHow about this drink? It's delicious. I have it with almond milk and a pinch of Truvia.

I highly recommend the Almond Breeze unsweetened almond milk - it is lower carb (only 0.2% carb) and lower calorie than cow's milk. Lactose-free, cruelty-free and fortified with vitamins.
