Turmeric. Good/Bad??

Does anybody know if Turmeric is good/bad for diabetics.. Thanks..
Also wondering about Apple Vinegar Supplements??
 
Funny that you posted this as I have just started experimenting with turmeric supplements - the evidence of it helping diabetics that I've found online is strong. It is early days as I haven't been taking it consistently yet - but this week I will and compare my readings to last week - but I think it may be reducing my fasting bs significantly. This is purely anecdotal and like I said, early days so we'll see.
 
Apple Cider Vinegar (with the Mother Culture) is said to aid in reducing fasting blood glucose. Turmeric is a powerful anti-inflammatory (it contains curcumin and is also a strong antioxidant) it will boost circulation which can be beneficial to diabetics whose circulation may not be as good as non-diabetics. Whether it works for you in terms of helping with BG control- you'll just have to try it and test yourself and see. :) If using turmeric make sure to buy one with added piperine or bioperine as this helps the body absorb the turmeric more effectively.

I use it myself for its anti inflammatory properties and find it helps my back pain.

Other natural supplements which some people find useful for BG control are cinnamon and basil. ( I trained in Medical Herbalism so have an interest in this area):happy:

Turmeric, garlic, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg it's almost any spice that is good for us.
Just add it when you can when your cooking. @eggs11 this is all part of my be good to your liver and reverse T2 plan we were speaking about thought you might like to be read in. :bookworm:

Supplements.
Can pass through your system to fast for your body to absorb them properly/effectively so always go for food rich in the thing your trying to supplement. Example Magnesium (Mg)has great health benefits for your liver and controlling bg levels.
  • Spinach, avocados, nuts are great examples of food rich in Mg.
  • Electrolyte drinks are high in Mg.
  • And Mg is absorbed through the skin you can have a bath with epsom salts.
  • It also promotes a good nights sleep. Sleep reduces bg levels.
But who has time for a bath in the mornings I just bought Mg spray and use it as a body rub after a shower.

I have a glass of water every morning with ACV in it has to many health benefits associated with T2 not to give it the benefit of the doubt. Just to double down on it's effects I usually drink it with an Electrolyte sports water drink high in Mg.

I recently read that to get the most benefit from ACV you should drink it at night before you go to bed. This makes sense if you sleep for 8 hours then its sitting around in your system for all that time. ;)

Yes you can get it from Ebay or Amazon. The only thing that I found with the spray was its terribly oily and takes a while to soak into the skin. Not sure if there is a non greasy one out there

I have 2 easy ways to get the spices in (I use cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger mainly). The first is to mix with crunchy peanut butter (WholeEarth with seeds I find has the least carbs). The second is to make a seed cracker (many recipes on Youtube) and add these in (great with strong cheese), where water is specified I remove a teaspoon and use ACV).

I drink ADV before a meal and quickly wash down with a glass of water due to the acidity (If you wonder why I don't just add to water, it's because I don't like the taste, so find my method easier).
 
I used to work in the food industry and read up on far more than the foods produced by the firm - I left with the opinion that the place of a woman was not out in the workforce but at home creating foods which were not actively harmful to the well-being of the family - perhaps making the clothes too so that fat or thin the people could be dressed according to their taste, not at the whim of fashion. That would naturally not be something to take up the whole of their time, and fathers or husbands would only need to work a few hours a day in order to keep the automated production of useful things flowing smoothly. The family would then be reunited in the early afternoon so they could enjoy the rest of their day. Unfortunately no one put me in charge of things.

I use red or white wine vinegar, and unpasteurized apple cider vinegar along with e.v. olive oil on salads, I make flavoured mayonnaise (easy with a Bamix) and I add chopped seeds and herbs to various dishes.

hi @deathbycoke the best way to incorporate herbs and spices is to add them to your food....as others have already said but if that isn't possible/desirable then supplements can be very useful.

Basil can be used to help a variety of medical conditions but has been used (in the East) for a long time in the management of diabetes. It contains ursolic acid which acts as an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor- reduces absorption of glucose in the small intestine/helps limit rise in BG.

Obviously everyone is different. I give it to Hubby and I think that it does help.

If you are taking medication for diabetes then you should always check that it's safe to take herbal supplements. There can sometimes be contra-indications and sometimes supplements can amplify the effects of prescription meds. Herbs are powerful so always treat them with respect. :happy:
