Hi, I'm a Type 1 diabetic on a pump. My 12 year old son has been on the TrialNet study for the last few years and through six monthly GTT we know he has impaired results. On Saturday morning he had a hypo on waking. It has really worried me, although we've been told he has a 1 in 3 chance of going on to develop full diabetes I've never really thought about the implications and now seeing him on Saturday I guess I'm thinking it is getting closer. He's been struggling with tummy pain for months and loosing weight..... He's got a general consultant appt Friday week, so I guess I'll wait until then but I'm so scared. My 14 year old has Crohn's. Feeling like a bad Mum this morning for passing all this on. X

Welcome @AndsMac

There will be others who will respond later who will have much more experience about some of the medical issues facing you.
I just wanted to say that your kids are very lucky to have a Mum who is so concerned for them, so aware of their health and so full of love for them. From that alone I can tell that you will get thru this so please don't beat yourself up because there is nothing you have done to bring any of this on

Thank you. To top it all off my insulin pump has just died! I'm currently 19.6 without any back up, just trying to get hold of GP. X

@AndsMac

Sorry to hear that. Make sure you get it sorted. It is important you look after yourself the rest will follow

@AndsMac You're definitely not a bad mum! You clearly care for your children very much :) Diabetes js a lottery (but one with a rubbish prize!) Most people who have 'diabetic genes' don't develop Type 1, so there are environmental factors involved.

Do you have an insulin pen? Or syringe?

Thank you both. I do my best but do prioritise my children. I've only started looking after myself again since Xmas, and no I have nothing to use here. My Crohn's son was in hospital last week too, so emotions all over the place anyway. I know I'll be stronger for it though. Fingers crossed GP will phone by 1pm, I've spoken to pump nurses so I know what to do when I get my pens etc. X
