Type 1: Teaching a child

I'm not sure if there are, and even if there are I'd be curious to see how they're written for children.
With that aside, my first thought is to wonder if it's wise to put that kind of pressure on a child that young. Not only are you literally trusting your life to your three year old, but that's an incredible responsibility for a fully grown adult much less a child.
I would probably make sure he knows how to make emergency phone calls but I wouldn't train him on emergency medical treatment.

I'm sure a similar question was asked last year but I can't find the thread.
I doubt there's any material aimed at children that young, so the guidance should come from you. I'd explain how to call 999 and/or a relative or neighbour. You could also show him where your hypo treatments are in case you're ever unable to get them. Obviously put them somewhere he can reach and that's safe for him to access.

With my daughter I made sure she knew 999, ambulance and diabetic. I also taught her that if mummy asks for her test kit or sweets to get them straight away.
She was very proud at school when they talked about the emergency services and she already knew how to do it!

I bought up a young child and as her father was always working I was on my own with her alot, We haven't had any emergencies except the odd hypo in public and at home and she was always ok to sit patiently with me whilst I got myself sorted so in that respect she had a good understanding of what type 1 was, I didn't actually teach her about calling emergency services until she was about 5 as she understood it well then. All kids are different and it may involve a regular session on 'what to do in case of an emergency' but make sure there's glucose in every room and that they know where to go to fetch some if need be, hopefully you won't have an emergency but if you are worried about this then see if there's a friend or family member who can check in on you on a regular basis ?
