I'm 17 and I've been diabetic for like one year. I often have questions but this app is not very easy for conversations. I would prefer PMs.

I use the App for convenience because it's on the tablet and I can just pick it up whenever I'm passing. Plus it's constantly logged in. However there are times when it's a pain as there is no info about the posters, signatures and the like, and a long post (especially with quotes) just hides out of sight beneath the keyboard so you have to keep moving that to see what you've written.
Pros and cons - I still use the app though!
Rather than PMs, you have a greater chance of someone helping if it's on the website. Yes, it's an open public forum and open to everyone to see - but then whatever you discuss on here may well help a number of other people who are glancing in but not yet registered to post.
Same here, the Chrome browser is far quicker than the app on my Samsung Tablet and android phone.I prefer the browser format, but that's just me.
Separate names with a comma. You may invite up to 5 member(s).

If the Op want to use PM's he can correspond to five other members if he wants to.
Forum staff can send pm's to more recipients in XenForo forum software, If I remember correctly from my days on staff at another forum using XenForo.
The bit I quoted came from the PM page http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/conversations/ where a member is allowed to correspond with up to five members.
Hope this helps.
