Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

Just got back from my appointment with my diabetes specialist doctor and my hba1c was 10!! Ive only been diagnosed 3 years and its just steadily rising.

My cholesterol level was high aswell i think it was 6.5. The doc told me that if i carry on the way i am in 10 years time ill be in heart attack territory. She said my liver is hanging on by a thread but i was to gob smacked to ask what she meant.

Its all come as a bit of a shock really, ive done the carb counting course and had plenty of advise from my DSN but im a bit to laid back about it all thinking that it will all just sort its self out, obviously its not.

The doc also said that my pulse in my foot is getting weaker and i have started to get a tingling sensation in my feet when i got to sleep at night.

Im only 28 this year and i just hope that if i pull my socks up now that i can reverse all these effects. Its all scared me a bit if im honest.

Last week i had my appointment with my endocrinologist and was told my HbA1C was at 5.6% ! I am super pleased with that because these last 3 months i have been off honeymoon and have been having lots of post meal spikes, i was sure it would be higher, but i can't argue with blood work!

Also, i was told that since my 1 year anniversary is in may i qualify for an insulin pump!
(The Canadian government has a grant program where T1Ds who are referred receive a pump, paid for by the government, as well as an annual stipend to cover the cost of supplies... and my doctor has told me she will gladly refer me to the program!)

Now all i need to do is pick a pump... I am thinking Animas Vibe, with the dexcom :) I will poke around the internet though, because the Omnipod looks interesting!

the doctor is trying to shock you into doing something about it - don't be afraid we have all been there.

Got a scare from the gp's receptionist when I rang for my blood test results and she told me my HbA1C was high but I saw my consultant a few days later and he told me it's 7.1 and he was perfectly happy with that considering that it was so bad when I was diagnosed last year. I was convinced he was going to tell me off, so relieved that I seem to be doing the right thing!

My hba1c has been 4.4% (24.6mmol) the last three check ups...I get seen at clinic every 6 weeks. I like numbers so I enjoy weighing and calculating everything!!

Every 6 weeks?! They forgot about me and I had to wait 9 months for my second appointment :/

Every six weeks no word of a lie!! I'll be diagnosed a year at the end of this month. I get seen so often because doctors don't understand my case...a lot of strange things have been happening eg, I'm eating the same meals but I'm now taking1/4 of the amount of insulin to get same bg results and I'm not exercising more or anything.

Maybe you're a medical marvel from which a cure will be found! Or not lol. I'll be one year diagnosed on may 8th, it's good to hear from others who are in the same situation as me and are doing so well. I get a bit "woe is me" sometimes, positive stories help a lot

I'was diagnosed last june and don't have another appointment till this june o_O

I think this thread is fascinating. There are some incredibly low hba1cs that I know I couldn't achieve without a lot of hypos, mainly due to activity levels.

My consultant was happy at 5.9% as long as there are not significant Hypos involved. He wasn't pushing for lower.

I think it's just a case of everyone being different. I also partake in a lot of exercise, I compete on the bike so I'm training 1-3 sessions daily...with the days of 2-3 sessions being very specific workouts. I always aim to sit between 3.4-5.2....anything below 3.4 and I feel hypo symptoms coming on.

I get my bloods done every three months but confused. Com they gave me a percentage of 66 percent what does that mean

When I rang docs for results she said 66 percent first one I have had

Have been in hospital so many times don't know what's normal or not

Had usual bloods done at the docs they said 66 percent raised !! This is every three months yes
