Type 1's What is your BG in the morning?

Oh me too! Remember you saying you were from Norfolk but ah, yes Norwich. That's a whole other language in itself! (I must point out I don't have an accent, but no offence to those who do!). Thas a rummun'.....
 
I don't have an accent either but can easily put one on. Mind how you go :lol:
 
Thanks Paul but we all vary from day to day don't we. I have a note on recommended readings but i just can't remember where I got them from. Two hrs after meal 9, morning 4-6 and bedtime 6-8. so I tend to look at these and assume I am high a lot of the time.That's why this thread and forum is so good.Keeps one sane!

Absolutely! :thumbup: It's a good diary too of how we are doing,good or bad from week to week,my team has suggested below 7 in the morning and 9 or below after meals for me but I'm struggling with that TBH,2 hours after a 2 egg and cheese omelette 14.5 earlier! :thumbdown: I still seem to be spiking badly no matter how low carb my meal is. :think:
 
Diary is very useful to keep track of where you are. I am even more of a nerd and keep a spreadsheet with graphs for overall average and for at each of my 4 key test points. My problem time is evening and morning. In the day and after food generally seems OK but overnight I go up from where I finish up now (although still normally below 8) and evening not sure why but never as low as in the day regardless of how low carb I go (or not in the day!). Might try taking more of my calories at the other two meals and see if that helps.

I'm off on hols for a little while now so if I don't come on for a while good luck to all!

What you are describing there is typical of LADA. Trouble is there is no first phase insulin release. I take a unit of Apidra to cover a 2-egg and cheese omelette :crazy: The eggs have about 0.5g carb each, a splash of milk has about 1.5g carb and the cheese has a tiny amount - overall, the meal is maybe 3-3.5g carb. Normally, I am on a ratio of between 1:8 and 1:10 Apidra to carb, but all and any carb will spike me and protein takes the place of carb if I go too low on the carb front. Sugary foods such as chocolate are out of the question, and liquids like orange juice would have me in the 20s within minutes. 1 jelly baby raises my BG by about 3!

When you said on another thread that you were trying another drug to avoid insulin, I doubted the wisdom of that for LADA. Maybe you should consider small doses of a rapid-acting insulin like Apidra to get those post-prandial spikes down? It really isn't as bad as you might fear, and you feel so much better once you are able to eat without such bad spikes. I still keep my carbs low (<50g per day) to help keep some control and I generally keep my BG below 7 two hours after a meal, although even yesterday I managed a 9.8 after a large chicken and bacon salad - about 6g carb with 1.5 units Apidra :***: Anyway, I hope you find something that works for you!

4.1 for me but feel ropey if under 4.5. Shouldn't complain but would rather a 5.5 so don't feel like I'm battling an approaching hypo! Am usually a little bit too high - urgh, it's all a numbers game eh?!
