Type 1'stars R Us

Morning all, missed a day somehow, what a lot's happened.

@Marie 2 I have my fingers very tightly crossed for your girl. I'm not surprised your bg went up, it's a horrid situation and there's just no way to explain to them what's happening. Do keep us posted.

@CharlieType1Diabetic welcome to the club, you're fully fledged now! 35+ years on I still remember my first hypo vividly. Marie's given you a lot of good advice; when I was first diagnosed the advice was 10g fast-acting (my go-to is three jelly babies) then if you're above 4 after 15 minutes, a 10g slower release snack, something like a digestive biscuit. I find that I don't always need the snack; it depends on what reading I get after 15 minutes and what I've been doing and what I'm about to do. If the reading is 6 or above and the answer to both questions about activity is 'nothing very physical' I'll pass on the snack and maybe check bg after another half-hour (easier with a Libre!). If the answer to either is 'fairly physical' I'll probably eat something. Bear in mind that the effects of physical activity can affect your bg for hours (and in some people up to a day) afterwards. It's a sad fact that the only absolute rule of T1 is that we can't live without insulin. All the rest - how much insulin, when, where, how many carbs, insulin to carb ratio, which foods make you spike, are all individual. There's commonality with quite a lot of things, but the biggest thing to learn is what works for you. Good luck!

@Choosehappy I don’t think I can give you a clear answer on how much fat? We all differ as I’m sure you are finding out.

My normal meal which is usually lower fat I prebolus half before I eat and the rest I adjust for what I actually ate. Higher carb and higher fat and I prebolus a third, then a third when I eat and the last third a half hour after.

For me stir frying in oil or adding vegan margarine and I don’t have to make any changes in dosing. But say I make a vegan chicken salad with a bunch of vegan mayo and then I don’t prebolus. I switch to half when I eat and half a half hour later. But there’s a vegan pizza I eat that I also give an actual extra small dose for 2 hours after I eat it because it’s so high fat. That’s not usual for me.

So,

I find this ring during a tidy up at home.. "Is that what I think it is?" Yep it's a "mood ring..."
So my wife & I decide to have some hippy fun finding out online what the colours where meant to represent?
Because if you remember that era? "You weren't there, man!"

By all accounts.. There is peace love & harmony in the household.

However.. My Lantus pen is stressed & over worked...
Or just stored at the right temprature..

I want to thank everyone for your very kind and thoughtful words. It means a lot.
I miss her.

Morning all...

Now utterly confused by how long I need to stay in isolation - but I am trying to ignore it all for the weekend at least. I really, really hope for the sake of my students who don't do change easily, our workplace doesn't change the dates we've all been given, but I am also aware that education authorities are adding on the pressure for us to be seen to be, in the workplace, educating.

The entire workforce exploded with the online registers demands three days after we were sent home. Um, in protest, I filled all ours out to the end of the isolation period we'd been originally told... and am now waiting for a telling off for that. I get they are a legal document, but we are also doing a second version for reporting in daily by lunchtime, and because that's on a spreadsheet, that can be done in two minutes by someone who knows what they are doing. But, apparently, it's too difficult to do our main registers - and I know there are some people who need occupying in our physical workplace as they were not in the wrong place at the wrong time and who would sit and do the job.

Actually, all things, the zoom-type teaching sessions have been fun, if a little crazy! As have the individual conversations I've been having over those kinds of calls. But, we all do better in the classroom.
