I don’t give up my blood easily - when I had my pre-op about 6 months ago two nurses tried three times in each arm then sent me to the section that takes the routine blood tests and he took two attempts and finally got some out of the back of my hand - it must have taken an hour in totalI agree, missed a couple of days and it's all about blood - no, I don't ever want to see it happening! My worst experience was when I was giving blood (in the 12 years between being old enough and being diagnosed Type1) and the doctor at the clinic had 8 - yes really, 8 - attempts to find my vein. Almost enough to make me never go again. Not given to fainting, but more than 2 attempts and I feel as if I might; no wonder they used to make you lie down to give blood! Yet my last GP could take blood without me noticing the needle go in. He said it was all about feeling for the vein almost more than looking, which makes perfect sense as my veins aren't very visible and never have been, even when at my fittest. Shame he's retired.
Just as well we all do not live on desert islands !!
Morning guys - just wanted to share what I am feeling was a huge win for me yesterday! The screenshot of my Libre graph circled in red shows how my bg was after a freakin humongous Chinese takeaway. And not a "oh I'm being good so I'll get the less carby stuff" it was batter balls with sweet and sour, chips, everything evilnot something I do very often but I did inject little and often (roll on pump in September!) And woke up through the night a few times to check how it was going. Totally worth it for a big blow out and I'm so pleased by how little my bg suffered!
PS I realise these levels might actually horrify some people but I'm thrilledView attachment 28025
My finger says 5.6 but Libre says 9.2 and going up, finger says 4.9 and Libre says 2.9 (and level), etc.
Morning peeps, oooh this diabetes lark is a pain is it not. Another very good day for me yesterday ( which is very unusual) drifting along 4.5-- 6 most of the day, bedtime is a little low at 4.2 so about 8 jelly beans. Off to land of nod,1 am 9.5, 4 am 12.7 OOOOPs correction dose and back to bed.
Thats the 4th day in a row. of lowish during day and dropping just before bed. Its seems to go through little periods of silly BG. About a month ago its was 2 weeks of dawn phenomenen, but that seems to have settled down now
Hope you all have a good day me I am out to paint my garden fence. Rock n roll
TEST ONE COMPLETED
Atta boy, BrixtonType1!
I think we were all pretty much like that in the early days. It was one of my big worries just after dx, thinking my life was going to be hugely restricted, so I was surprised/pleased as the months went by to find out just how much flexibility there is with it.
You're just starting out on that journey so my message to a newbie is that a lot of the worries and concerns you might have at the moment will fade and disappear as time goes by and you pick up more on-the-ground knowledge of how to deal with situations.
This is very good. But that nighttime 4.2 is low, but it's not hypo territory.
I've found recently that if I try to correct a night time low blood sugar with sweets, it goes shooting up, and I have to correct back down. It might be worth trying a gentler correction. I currently use picota cherries, which seem to push it up a little, but not excessively.
You could try something gentler, and aim for a perfect day.
Thanks Alison, its a strange one, sometimes I correct at 4.2 and its fine, others it shoots away up like last night, and others it will fall during the night. I have tried taking a digestive biscuit, about 10 g of carbs and that also tends to shoot way up
One thing about type 1 it certainly keeps you on your toes
Morning all went out last night on my first night out since I have been diagnosed with type 1 one month ago. To be honest I was a bit scared to go out out and telling my friends I’m not drinking the first thing I will hear is a big WHY then I have to say I’m type 1 .Great night I needed it I did not drink alcohol needed to relax with my friends and feel normal I was out to around 3.30 loud music enjoying stayed on water fruit juice all night I’ve drunk for 30 years happy to give it up and really don’t mind spending time with people that are on alcohol and I’m not TEST ONE COMPLETED
