Type 1'stars R Us

I agree, missed a couple of days and it's all about blood - no, I don't ever want to see it happening! My worst experience was when I was giving blood (in the 12 years between being old enough and being diagnosed Type1) and the doctor at the clinic had 8 - yes really, 8 - attempts to find my vein. Almost enough to make me never go again. Not given to fainting, but more than 2 attempts and I feel as if I might; no wonder they used to make you lie down to give blood! Yet my last GP could take blood without me noticing the needle go in. He said it was all about feeling for the vein almost more than looking, which makes perfect sense as my veins aren't very visible and never have been, even when at my fittest. Shame he's retired.
I don’t give up my blood easily - when I had my pre-op about 6 months ago two nurses tried three times in each arm then sent me to the section that takes the routine blood tests and he took two attempts and finally got some out of the back of my hand - it must have taken an hour in total

Morning guys - just wanted to share what I am feeling was a huge win for me yesterday! The screenshot of my Libre graph circled in red shows how my bg was after a freakin humongous Chinese takeaway. And not a "oh I'm being good so I'll get the less carby stuff" it was batter balls with sweet and sour, chips, everything evil not something I do very often but I did inject little and often (roll on pump in September!) And woke up through the night a few times to check how it was going. Totally worth it for a big blow out and I'm so pleased by how little my bg suffered!
PS I realise these levels might actually horrify some people but I'm thrilled Screenshot_20180811-081813.jpg

Excellent work @wildtoast

My finger says 5.6 but Libre says 9.2 and going up, finger says 4.9 and Libre says 2.9 (and level), etc.

Hi, Helen, are you getting that sort of randomness all the time or just once in a while? I'm wondering whether it's sensor "noise", which happens every now and then when the filament moves around.

I've put a pic below showing an example of noise.

Most of the day, on the lower 24 hr graph, it's trotting along nicely from 9am to 11pm - each 5 min blue dot has a broad relationship to the ones before and after it.

But in the upper graph covering 3am to 8am, it goes crazy between 4am to 4:45 am before settling down until another dingbat hour between 7am and 8am.

I don't believe that it was bouncing around between 6 and 8 in the early hours in such a short period. Some of the bounces and drops show a change of 2 in 5 mins.

When I see that sort of stuff, I write it off as noise, the occasional randomness we get with cgm from time to time.

That sort of stuff is quite easy to see on 5 min dotted graphs, but not so much on the libre reader or app graphs, because they smooth out to make a line graph from averages.

So you might not necessarily see the errant noisy readings on the graph itself, just the spot scan readings.

A new libre reading is available every minute or so, so I wonder whether it would be worthwhile doing a whole series of scans every couple of minutes for an extended period, then reading them back from the logbook instead of looking at the graph.

Before I blinged my libre with the transmitter, and was just using the reader, I'd get some scan readings which just didn't make sense - they were total outliers compared to the last few. So I ended up doing several in a row over the next few minutes. It turned out to be quite common to have situations where I'd be generally running at, say, 5 or 6, and then there would be an unexplained 8, but when I scanned a few times later over the next 10 mins or so, it would be back in line at 5 or 6, so I reckoned the 8 was just noise and ignored it.

Because the reader graph is made from averages, it is difficult to spot noise, easier seeing it in logbook numbers, and much easier with 5 min dots on cgm.

Morning peeps, oooh this diabetes lark is a pain is it not. Another very good day for me yesterday ( which is very unusual) drifting along 4.5-- 6 most of the day, bedtime is a little low at 4.2 so about 8 jelly beans. Off to land of nod,1 am 9.5, 4 am 12.7 OOOOPs correction dose and back to bed.

Thats the 4th day in a row. of lowish during day and dropping just before bed. Its seems to go through little periods of silly BG. About a month ago its was 2 weeks of dawn phenomenen, but that seems to have settled down now

Hope you all have a good day me I am out to paint my garden fence. Rock n roll

This is very good. But that nighttime 4.2 is low, but it's not hypo territory.

I've found recently that if I try to correct a night time low blood sugar with sweets, it goes shooting up, and I have to correct back down. It might be worth trying a gentler correction. I currently use picota cherries, which seem to push it up a little, but not excessively.

You could try something gentler, and aim for a perfect day.

Morning all went out last night on my first night out since I have been diagnosed with type 1 one month ago. To be honest I was a bit scared to go out out and telling my friends I’m not drinking the first thing I will hear is a big WHY then I have to say I’m type 1 . Great night I needed it I did not drink alcohol needed to relax with my friends and feel normal I was out to around 3.30 loud music enjoying stayed on water fruit juice all night I’ve drunk for 30 years happy to give it up and really don’t mind spending time with people that are on alcohol and I’m not TEST ONE COMPLETED

TEST ONE COMPLETED

Atta boy, BrixtonType1!

I think we were all pretty much like that in the early days. It was one of my big worries just after dx, thinking my life was going to be hugely restricted, so I was surprised/pleased as the months went by to find out just how much flexibility there is with it.

You're just starting out on that journey so my message to a newbie is that a lot of the worries and concerns you might have at the moment will fade and disappear as time goes by and you pick up more on-the-ground knowledge of how to deal with situations.

Thanks Alison, its a strange one, sometimes I correct at 4.2 and its fine, others it shoots away up like last night, and others it will fall during the night. I have tried taking a digestive biscuit, about 10 g of carbs and that also tends to shoot way up

One thing about type 1 it certainly keeps you on your toes

Hi and welcome :)

I doubt anyone of us would be horrified on here, as we all know what a rollercoaster ride being type 1 is............. :rolleyes:Welcome @wildtoast :)

Good afternoon y'all, woke with an 8.8, ate when it dropped and it rose to 10, an extra 1u Humalog and I'm 6 now and dropping, a mornings graft at mothers and I cam home with a Yorkshire amateur swimming assoc medal for 3rd place in a 440 yards race so I'll tease the small child later with it :)

I'm away to the gym shortly, I might swim but bloods depending, I was going to go watch the football but won't get back in time to collect the little one so I might just chill with the radio on :)

Have a good one :)

Good to see you, @BrixtonType1 & @wildtoast :)

I’m late to the party today, may have something to do with the bottle of wine I quaffed last night... :smug: a bottle of dry rosé doesn’t affect my levels at all, I reckon the alcohol balances the carbs perfectly over the course of the evening, so I don’t inject or take extra snacks for it. Spirits get a bit messy and I can guarantee a morning hypo if I get a bit enthusiastic on the rum.

Been out and about getting a puncture repaired (2” nail :banghead:) and a new collar, tag etc for one of our cats. B*ll*cks (big, old, idiot black tom) came home last night wearing a silver glittery collar - someone has taken off his admittedly scruffy black leather one, but put the massive 1” bell he wears on the new one, but not his name tag. So we think someone is trying to appropriate him. So he is now sporting a bright red studded leather collar with a “do not feed” tag, much more suitable for a biker’s cat ;)

:borg: MelBot T1000 update: Etch-a-Sketch has me 90% SIG, (I adore Captain Scarlet, @Knikki ) for yesterday, and 93% so far today, I absolutely love this pump thing. It’s doing exactly the job I got it for - to squash the dawn phenomenon and deal with my monthly insulin resistance. :borg:

Good afternoon all. Welcome to the 2 newbies on this thread...@wildtoast and @BrixtonType1. Woke to a 9.8 this morning so little correction dose with breakfast and been hovering around the 5s all day. Bug test tonight as we are going to our friends house who is a very good cook. Lots of drinking and eating and plenty of Fiasp tonite
