Its so easily done the hunger is unbelievable when im hypo and ive got no self restraintWhat a nightmare night. Woke up at 1.30am dripping in sweat. Libre telling me Lo, Accu check telling me the same. Decided to raid the fridge and the Jelly Babies!! Not the best idea. Woke at 7 with a 28!!! No ketones. BIG correction dose. Now having a 13.3 with a straight down arrow.. Feeling like poo at the mo. Libre graph looks like a mountain range.
*** NOT TO SELF ***
Do NOT eat everything in the fridge while having a hypo

I’m allergic to jelly babies...I'm not sure you should make that note to self. If I have a hypo that just slips down to 3.5 I have the luxury of being able to correct with 10g, and waiting and seeing if it's enough, and if it isn't eat a little bit more.
When it'goes really low you can't do that, you just have to get it back up as quickly as possible. There really is not other option but to eat too many jelly babies.

Yup. About the only benefit to T1, denied...Oh no!

What's with the obsession over jelly babies anyway? It's always the one used to describe recovering from a hypo here in the UK, when just about any other sweet would do the same job. I tend to have a banana at hand for these things myself.

Usually 4 or 5 jelly babies will get me up above 4. Didn't really know what I was doing, just knew I had to eat. When I got up and seen all the rubbish I had eaten. So next time I will head for the Jelly Babies AND not eat the bag as well lol
LO is less than 2.2 I think, or at least that's the lowest number I remember seeing. And regarding bananas, you're not limited to just one if you're particularly low.I think the problem is that when the meter just says "lo" we have no idea what we are dealing with, so people probably go into panic mode.
When we have a number we can make a rough calculation of how much food might be needed to get back to normal range, but without that information it's hard to know.
But not eating the bag, as well, is probably a good idea. Also there is a point, I find, where I go so low,, that I get really hungry, you may have had that too

Might I just wade in with the "don't raid the fridge" or "eat too many jelly babies" debate........
If sugar levels are low, mine or yours, and particularly if you've been asleep and the hypo has woke you up then panic sets in.....
That panic or fear or whatever you want to call it causes us to over eat.
I have been over treating hypos for years and its always worse at night time/just woke up time.
Congratulate yourself that you have woke up and IF you've eaten too much then use your vast experience at this game to get yourself back on the straight and narrow.....
I mean all of this in the nicest possible way but I do cringe at times when people are beating themselves up after over treating a potential life threatening hypo.......
Have the best weekend ever
Tony
They act faster than other sweets then I take it?5 grams of sugar in 1 jelly baby, easy to eat and digest pretty much straight away
OH and they are super nice
Personally I wouldn't make any distinction between 2.1 and anything below that when it comes to eating or drinking to recover as the difference is negligible, but each to their own.Thing is though, it could be as high as 2.0, but it isn't necessarily, it could be much lower than that. When you know it's low, but not how low, it's not a good idea to make an assumption that it's just hit 2.0, because that might not be the case. I woke up with a 1.6 once with a freestyle optium, so if I saw a lo I wouldn't mess around with bananas, and I didn't then either. There is no value in virtuously eating a banana, instead of sweets, when blood sugar is so low.
I do treat a hypo with bananas when it's not very low, but I do find it takes longer than sweets, not much longer, but enough, when it really matters, to make a difference.
