Type 1'stars R Us

@Japes I remember the days when if a kid was obviously doing something wrong, every adult in sight felt free to correct them and was backed up by the parent/granny when it turned up. These days teachers get abusive, threatening emails and parental visits for telling off their angelic little kid (who is likely an absolute monster). It's a funny old world we live in.

All is well in tofu land! I am making more today! Was going to do the seitan but that's been bumped until Wednesday.

Adjusting the dinner ratio worked! I've held more or less steady in the high 4's since lunchtime yesterday

Hi I was a car dealership receptionist, at a large well known dealership. The rudeness of some customer's, is well, not nice. I understood their frustration and annoyance, so being first port of call, I got it. Knowing, about what I knew about Service and other departments, I wasn't surprised. I was there when we had the petrol protests that made the forecourts dry in 2000, it was a nightmare. No matter how I told them we had no petrol or were waiting for it, bit they were angry.
I once saw a customer get hold of the Service manager outside the by the collar and tie !! I left in the October because I was pregnant with my daughter.
 
@evilclive My husband was based in Gairloch for many years when he was married to his previous wife. (They had been split up quite a while when I met him). He lived up in the Highlands and Islands for over 25 years and absolutely loved it. We used to go back to visit his daughters but they have moved now (Edinburgh and Sidmouth), with one over on Orkney - which has the virtue of being easier to get to than her previous home on Shetland.

I love the southwest - we live in Devon but it is so beautiful up there!
 
@Robinredbreast - I absolutely couldn't do customer service. No way, no how. I once worked evenings in a pub (supplementing the day job wages) and this is a tourist region. Parents brought their kids in and they could be horribly rude. I got an official warning the day I said to two children - in the outraged presence of their parents - "Did your mummy forget to pack your manners in your suitcase?" If I'd been fired it would have been worth it for the look on all their faces

Off to visit my daughter, my SIL and baby Cleo this afternoon, going my car with youngest daughter and her boyfriend so really looking forward to that. I am all alone this morning, won't see daughter until later on, washing on, Pebbles is out, so another cuppa I think to get me going lol

My brother and his wife moved to Devon last year from Weston- super-mare.

@Scott-C , in Byres Road cafes and bars,you could feed them grass , tell them its organic, charge them £20 a plate and they would still buy it.
 

I have been going to the Ullapool and peferably beyond area, since the late 70's Used to go every few years but in last 10 years or so have been going once sometimes twice a year. Such a wonderful part of the country. My preferred area is around Lochinver and the small hamlets around there. Achmelvich Bay, go on Google images of it , is stunning.

I also love the walk out to Sandwood Bay, about 4 miles off the nearest road, to one of the remotest bays in UK.

The west side of the NC500 is superb the rest is a bit meh, in my opinion

Cant decide if the NC500 is a good thing or not. On a personal level it has brought in lots of tourists and made my little peace of bliss, too noisy and crowded ( crowded meaning about 20 folks on a beach compared to 2). The hostel I used to stay in is always fully booked now. I can see the advantages for the locals who have businesses, but for me just wanting solitude it has been ruined at little
 
Feeling frazzled had the ninjas since 8.30 they have just gone as they have a party to get to im just looking round my living room at the complete chaos they have left behind....grandkids eh

In my day Byres Rd was chip suppers and Tennants. Guess it’s posher now the new uni buildings are up.

Lol, that road is murder, I'm not ashamed to say there was bits of of it I just got off the bike and pushed!

The Great Glen cycle route is a nice one mainly along the canal paths from Fort William to Inverness, quite short but very scenic, Fort Augustus at the foot of Loch Ness is a nice place for a few days stopover.

Another favourite was getting the ferry from Oban to the foot of South Uist, then cycling up through the Outer Hebrides to Stornoway then ferry back across to Ullapool - it's like going back to another more innocent age.

One of my memories of the last trip was the barman on the ferry choosing whatever he felt like, one of his mates walks up to him, asks, "what would be the name of that band you're playing, Donald?" He says, "that would be the Velvet Underground." It was so weird being surrounded by elderly people speaking Gaelic, with one of most avant garde New York noise bands hammering away in the background!

Steady day on the BS front, a bit low after a 10 k rowing session ( if it’s good for Cracknell then it’s good for me). Jelly babies to the rescue.
@karen8967 . A busy, chaotic but totally enjoyable day for you. Our two are off school now so that’ll be Mon, Tues and Weds all day for the next 2 weeks. “Bring it on” that’s what we say.
Nice to see everyone in good spirits and for those who are not then please accept a big hug.
Anyone know what’s happened to knikki? Noticed he’s no longer a member but a guest. Can’t seem to get information about him anymore.

Ahhhh, so when Norman Greenbaum sang about spirit in the sky he was actually referring to alcohol .
The song makes more sense now. Scott you are a font when it comes to knowledge
 
My husband (very Welsh) wears a khaki “utili-kilt” regularly - he looks pretty good it it too, so Scottishness isn’t necessary!
