Type 1'stars R Us

7.1 this morning which I'm pleased with as I have started getting busy in the evenings and have reduced my basal by 4 units.
A bit drastic I know but I'm fed up with late night lows which has a knock on effect as we all know.
I was 13.4 late on so I tutted a lot then gave myself 1.5 units of novorapid.
People make reference to insulin sloshing around their system but I had exercise sloshing around mine hence only 1.5 units.

I do hope I'm making sense.

I do hope your Friday ferments....

Tony

Hypos are the pits, even if they’re small ones, and treating them without a subsequent high seems to vary each time.
@Alison54321, I too find Levemir has a peak about 3 hours before it expires.

I made 9 Stollen cakes one year. It took forever as it uses an enriched bread-type dough which needs to rest.
I only did that one year.
The next year, I made 9 x Pannetone. But I didn't give myself enough time to let them cool before driving off to the aunts (recipients of said cake) so they sunk in the car.
The Christmas cake (the following year) worked well.
As did the Lebkuchen one year.

Last year, I made Christmas fudge (fudge with mincemeat fruit, nuts and spices). Then I discovered one of the aunts was just diagnosed as type 2 so has gone low carb.

I don't know what I am going to make them this year.

Gets down on one knee.....Will you marry me? :angelic:

You could always do fat bombs, or some LC truffles. Over on the LC What have You Eaten Today thread, there are some very creative bakes, and some keep well, which is an advantage.

I've just watched the BBC News piece about Tom Watson losing weight and reversing type 2 diabetes. It's pretty impressive and a great message. At least most of it is. However, when the reported asks what his advice would be to people struggling with their weight or who may have been diagnosed with diabetes, it is a shame they don't distinguish between type 2 and other types. He says it is likely their condition can be put in remission. Not if they have been diagnosed with type 1!

I agree. I think it's possibly also a bit unfair on some type 2s,as I was reading the other day that insulin resistance can have a genetic cause. So for someone in that situation no amount of dieting is going to end their insulin resistance.

Both Type 1 and Type 2 are complex illnesses, and I can understand the desire to make them less complicated by coming up with simple reasons why people get them, but it's not always helpful.

Always make a 9” square cake, which I don’t eat. A pile of Christmas puds, which I don’t eat and a diabetic pud which I do. It is a recipe my mum did for my brother which I have always preferred. I have already made it (decided I would make mine first) and cut it into portions and put it in the freezer. 3 gms a portion. It has no sweetener just fruit. Yummy with brandy and cream.

So, a question type 1 buddies. Does any one else have problems with dogs jumping up at them? I carry a small rucksack containing jelly babies and my insulin. I am on hols in North Norfolk and have had 3 incidents with dogs jumping up at me this week. The one today being the worst. All 4 paws off the floor and big leaps up at me. The final leap making me scream. Just wondered if they could smell something.
I have passed many well behaved dogs also this week. However, I am coming to the view that if the dog is not easily controlled it should not be allowed off a lead. If I had been a small child it could have been a different story. Would have been flat on my back on the sands instead of berating the owner.

Yes, I do. However, I always have had this happen and don't think it is any worse since I've been on insulin as I've always carried snacks of some kind with me when I'm out. I've been well trained by my great-aunts in this matter...

Could be the gelatine from the jelly babies. Or perhaps it's just Norfolk.

Dogs, kids, cats and other small furry critters always seemed very please to meet me for some reason but it is not often they jump up, the dogs that is.

Maybe they are just pleased to see you?

@Knikki just your animal attraction!

@becca59 as a dog owner I apologise! :sorry:Although I can say if mine did jump up all 4 paws off the ground you would be flat on your back - he’s never done that to anyone thankfully. If a dog is coming at you excited (not aggressively) fold your arms and half turn away.
