Sorry for the extra post but I feel a need to explain my happy dance - I have just been approved for the Libre!
I was going to be told next week but I preempted it by asking for one, regardless of full scale approval to use during my Medtrum trial.
When I left my last annual review, I thought it was a waste of time. I asked for a patch pump and they told me only the Medtronic was available but attempted to pacify me by saying they would consider my request. I asked for Libre and they told me they were not handing them out at the moment and attempted to pacify me by saying I may qualify when they change their policy.
Next week I am going to get both.
The Libre comes with caveats like must scan 8 times a day, need to try to reduce my test strip usage to 4 or less a day and need to keep my Hb1AC between 48 and 58.
I expect I will push the latter. My last Hb1AC was 48 and I expect the Libre to reduce the highs and it will prove I am reducing my hypos so I don't see why it needs to be so restrictive.
I can't imagine they would take it away form me because my Hb1AC is lower than the target and I can prove with the Libre it was not achieved through lots of hypos.
Anyway, back to the happy dancing ...
Libre is really quite inaccurate for me too, on the official scanner and app. But it’s a whole new ballgame to be able to blood calibrate it with Spike. I’m down to 2-3 tests a day now.Great news on the Libre helensaramay. Could I ask you what's changed your feelings about the Libre? I've often read you didn't feel it worked at all well for you. If by having the Libre you now need to reduce your strip use to less than 4 a day, couldn't that be tricky?
A couple of things changed
I still do not think the Libre, or any CGM available at the moment, replaces finger pricks so I will still do finger prick tests. Just less than at the moment.
- I found out about Glimp which allows me to calibrate against finger pricks and gives more accurate readings for me than the Libre App
- I taught myself to use the trends
Thankfully, the wording in the agreement about reducing test strip usage is not as tight as other things. It is more of a guidance than an absolute as it also explains when you need to finger prick such as when Bg is changing quickly which happens to me when exercising.

I have to give my 2 week loaned Libre back tomorrow, I don't want to, I love it, it's so easy to use and seeing the trends really help, but I know it will benefit someone else,
Do you not qualify to have it on prescription now that the rules have changed?
Don’t think it would look to impressive stuck on your arm either, even if it has got wings. The pedant in me always smiles at the Libre/Libra typo.
I think there is a sanitary pad called Libra but I don’t think it’s available on prescription and shiver at the thought of it lasting two weeks
Good luck with your LibrE appointment although it’s a shame you have to wait so long.
