Type 1'stars R Us

Well, up here in Edinburgh, Scotchland, which has one of the most liberal libre prescribing policies anywhere, a new paper has just been published on the before and after effect of libre, the data taken from 900 real world users, one of which was me!

https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00125-019-4894-1

It's all looking pretty good, lower a1cs, fewer dka admissions (dropped from 10 to 2), improved quality of life.

The number of folks pre-bolusing, a basic, incredibly useful technique which seriously improves post-meal bounces, but unfortunately, many have not been taught, jumped from 9 to 36%.

Hypos actually increased but the authors say this is probably on account of them being more visible on the 24 ht trace instead of them being missed with bg tests.

Approval of the system was high, but anxiety scores seems to have increased a bit too, but I'm speculating this is on account of the 24 hr trace showing hidden messy things we didn't see before - the increase in pre-bolusing and generally being able to see the messy stuff and then proactively figure out ways to sort it will win out in the end.

I remember from that T1D ROM event a few weeks ago that one of the speakers, I think it was the head of JDRF said that patients making a noise about libre did actually lead to policy changes, and the other speakers who were docs nodded in agreement. Making some noise does seem to work so I'd encourage anyone who is getting scripting grief from their docs to run this paper past them.

Totally. I own birkenstocks or DM's. That's it, literally, for footwear. If the weather is cold I have to go into the DM's. If its bearable/nice/wet, I wear the birks.

ETA - That sounds terrible; I actually have two pairs of each!

When we do our snow bird trick and head for the sun for the winter, I'm almost solely in flip-flops or adventure sandals for those 2-3 months. Going back into shoes when we come home is always a shocker.

Thanks @Scott-C when I get back from my hols I am going to take the bull by the horns and ring my team about them funding what I have been funding myself. Have got my HBA1C down in the last 2 years so fit half of one criteria.
@WuTwo am afraid I don’t worry how many times a day the dishwasher goes on. If it has to go on 3 times it does so. It has a quick wash of 25 minutes which I use very successfully for everything, including mucky pans.
WiFi here in Mull goes back to the Ark, and 3G let alone 4G is non existent. This forum has taken a good hour to get into. Shall stick to my Kindle for rest of week I think. It doesn’t seem right that all areas of the UK shouldn’t have access to the same opportunities as the Capital city. In my opinion it is discrimination. They are trying to get 5G up and running in London. Perhaps concentrate on getting other areas up to the same level first. Where we are staying the guy needs internet for his business. He is somewhat at a disadvantage. Another reason for parliament to be moved out of London. They might find themselves living in the real world, not the media obsessed, self centred, we are alright, don’t care about anyone else South East.
It is amazing how alcohol loosens the tongue. Have a good week all.

Och, but sitting in the Mishnish having a quiet pint looking at the yachts bobbing in the bay makes up for it!

Haven't been to Tobermory for a while, might try to fit in a visit soon. I'll try to time it for those 3 days in July when it doesn't rain all the time!

It's great down here, the sun never stops shining and I heard we're getting 7G next week. The absolute worst thing about being down here is having to clean up all the unicorn pooh, but it's worth it. I must go, I'm popping round to the palace for tea with Lizzie.

The Stornoway Times is now reporting a massive crash in Outer Hebrides and inner isles internet connectivity because of two of us sending messages to Becca...

Witness reports from the scene say, "dinnae care that much, got leathered in the Mishnish, heading off to Macgochans now."

Yum. Just finished a scrum my bowl of Brazilian Fish Stew.
A bit of a guess when it comes to how I split my combo bolus.

Quiet day today. Apart from a gym session, a good shopping trip and some holiday planning, it has been a quiet day.
That might have something to do with a sore throat which I am trying my best to ignore as I am not working for the rest of the week (hence, the holiday planning) and I refuse to be ill on holiday.

A gym session, a shopping trip, holiday planning and you made a Brazillian fish stew. If that's a quiet day then what does a busy day look like? And where did you get a Brazillian fish from?

Hello, a late night report. My bg was good 6.6 this morning at 8:30 then the party started - 2.2 at 17:01, which made me think that tresiba is too much. But anyway treated it and had usual food with it. It spike to 15.8 two hours later, left it as it is and went to nap again. low and behold 4 hours later at 23:08, 1.9. I got a story to tell my consultant on Tuesday. :hilarious: Should I just accept that my hypoglycemia awareness isn't the way it use to be? :banghead:
My bf is doing okay, he kept apologising for last night but I didn't care about his vomit, I cared more about if he was going to be okay.

It seems the trick to a perfect fasting number is to eat nothing from lunchtime, until having a piece of celebratory cake at 8.00 p.m., a bowl a yogurt before bedtime, and a 1.00 a.m. bit of rage bolusing because going to bed on a number which makes the machine nag to test ketones isn't a good idea...?

Morning all!

Morning @Japes.

In a rush today because we've got to get the dogs to the groomers before I go to work. Groomer is 15 minutes drive away and I start work at 8.oo a.m. In a bit of a rush.

Have a good day all.

Good morning everyone. A year ago this thread was started, so It's the 1st birthday of Type 1starsRUS, so a big Happy Birthday to all who have contributed so here's to another great year of much needed support and banter :)

Morning chaps, just waiting for a call to see if I have work today... Colossal foot on the floor spike, trying not to batter it too hard in case I have to drive! It wasn’t helped by the hypo I had to treat at 0530, so the dextrose and turning pump off exacerbated things... didn’t want to just trust my liver to get me out of it. Talk about overcompensating!

Have a good one x

Morning all, weather was good enough to get in the garden yesterday and spent a lot of time clearing and turning over an ex-rockery; sadly still a lot to do. What fascinates me is how long the effects of exercise like that last, so I've started the day well. Not sure it'll last if the weather breaks and I can't get out though!

Don’t want to jinx it but been glorious since we crossed the border from England. On Ross of Mull close to Bunessan. Oh and WiFi much better early morning.

Wow the first birthday of this addictive thread. Whoop! Well done @Robinredbreast

Libre denied :arghh: no great surprises there then, but I'm not sure if my 'doc' ever goes home, she called me on sunday afternoon(!), and had previously called me late tuesday evening as well - she certainly puts the long hours in.

been a steady weekend.

I also echo Knikki's comment above regarding RRB and this thread!

well i never got me pump it was more of a discussion to make sure i still wanted it and why i wanted it . the whole process is gonna take up to 12 weeks got to see the dietician to make sure i can still carb count properly...***:banghead::banghead:after looking at the pumps what were on offer i have decided to go for the ypso one as medtronic one was very heavy also i raised concerns about once i got the pump they will stop libre but nurse said if i start finger pricking 8 times a day between now and when i actually get the pump i will meet the criteria again to get libre prescribed again maybe a week or so overlap so that made me happy although not looking forward to it .also when i start on pump it will be straight onto the insulin not a week on saline which to be honest i didnt see the point of anyway.feel a bit deflated now but heyho the end is in sight enjoy the rest of your day everyone :)
