Hi, I am a T2, my bloods have been great since diagnosis, average around 6 on my 3 monthly test. I take 2 x Metformin 2 x a day. Friday my level when up to 15.8 and despite adding a couple of extra Metformin, eating no cards or sugars at all for 3 days, the number just wont come down. Its like the meds have stopped working. Any ideas anyone, I am getting worried I may be moving to Type 1. I just don't get it, nothing has changed at all. Thanks, Chris.

There are many things that affect our blood sugars. Have done anything differently since Friday like more/less exercise, are you unwell or coming down with anything, are you stressed, do you suffer from hay fever, have you had trouble sleeping, maybe it is the weather, ...?
Whatever the reason, someone with type 2 does not “move to Type 1”. They are both completely different diseases.
I hope you find the reason for your rise and feel better soon.

Have you checked the use by date on your test strips?
Please go back to your normal dose NOW!
Metformin has a maximum dose and you don't want to do damage by overdosing!
Can you tell us a bit more about what you've been eating?
Can it be you have something brewing, like a cold or a UTI or such? This can raise your blood glucose.
Can you call your doctor tomorrow to discuss your numbers? Should you get nauseous or develop a stomach ache, or feel generally very unwell, call out of hours for advice.
You cannot move to T1, but there's always a small possibility of having been misdiagnosed.
Hi, my eating has been normal, yesterday meat and salad, all day I was very tired and lethargic. I have no infections that I know of going on. Restless nights with lots of leg cramps so tired again today.

Hi. You don't move from T2 but T1 but you could be a mis-diagnosed T1 which is quite common. Ask the GP to do the two tests for T1/LADA i.e. C-Peptide and GAD.

Had trouble sleeping with lots of leg cramps, I think that's the sugar, other than that, nothings changed, no illness or sudden stress, thank you

A fair few reported BG shenangins have rolled in from other members as a sort of side effect.

Have you started using a steroid cream or inhaler or nasal drops?
One other test you should ask for is a blood test for iron levels, and also for anemia. Metformin can reduce your vitamin B12 which affects your hemoglobin levels and this can then lead to your meter giving skewed results. You should be able to request a whole blood panel and B12.

Hi, thanks, I do use a nose pray but have been using it for years, no creams though. I will ask for this test, I am due my 3 monthly soon anyway, thanks again.

Probably a good thing to get in touch with your GP about the high levels, and if you start to feel unwell before you can see them, then dial 111 or even go to A & E and take your meter with you.
Yes ref. Calling 111 but not sure A&E are supportive of people just turning up to A&E in these COVID days.
My partner had an asthma attack and they told him he should have called 999 instead, which feels counter intuitive but apparantly is the thing now. For cases less urgent I would assume 111 is the way to go
@chrisd1 calling the doctor sounds a sensible option. It's possible you could have something else going on that is impacting your levels (being ill, infection, covid) but getting things checked is always sensible
