I saw a piece on Teletex today that mentions a study which sugested that type 2 Diabetes reduces intelligence which worried me a trifle because I'm not that bright to start with.

Any comments?

Maybe this is the study they were talking about?:

http://www.springerlink.com/content/j07 ... ltext.html

It says (I think - I didn't read it all, just the abstract and conclusion) the decline was very slight (and didn't effect all types of intellegence), and wouldn't effect everyday performance.

It didn't seem to say how well controlled the blood sugar levels of the people in the study was either.

All in all personally I wouldn't worry about, the other types of complications you get with diabetes are much more noticable!

My IQ used to be about 150, so I think I may be able to spare a point or 2. Which will get me first?
Age( I'm aleady over 60) or T2?

Before I was diagnosed i used to believe Now I dont ...... Im sure there was something else i was going to say ...........

The cognitive decline was linked to hypos in what I read. Since T2sget fewer of these than T1s,( because a proportion of T2s don't use hypoglycaemic medications) Why are they writing about T2?
Maybe the researchers have cognitive difficulties????

Its a story put out by the NHS/DUK/Drug companies to show that diabetics who defy their advice & manage to control their blood sugar are weak in the head
