Type 2 Type 2 driver and Insulin

Afternoon folks.
Not long back from seeing the practice nurse.
I was recently started on Rybelsus, and my appetite had gotten smaller.
But my Hb1c hasn't improved. And are now talking about switching me to insulin.

I am a bus driver. And quite honestly I want to avoid it. As it seems to be a complete palava.

Any bus or truck drivers weigh in on this?
From a quick look, seems I would need to inform the DVLA, and not drive in a professional role until they say I can.

Just looking for some advice and insight.

When you notify dvla you are on insulin the will revoke your class 2 license.. you will have to complete their questionnaire(s) and expect you to have a report from your gp and then the same from a dvla consultant. They may also want an eye test at a dvla appointed Opticians’s

The gp and consultant will want 6 weeks worth of blood test results, minimum 2 tests a day and every 2 hours while driving you can not miss a single test the want a full 6 weeks worth

The process can take 3 months or more, but one you are through it’s better each year at renewal time as you don’t have to stop driving even if your license expires

But it will have to be renewed every 12 months
 
Hi @The Big Yin and welcome to the forum. Aside from any drug therapy have you tried to improve your blood sugars and HbA1c by altering your diet. I am on Rybelsus and I eat low carb (less than 40g carbs/day), that combination keeps my levels in the non diabetic range. If you considered this you may avoid insulin and all the hassle with the DVLA. Maybe your practice nurse would give you 3 months to try this approach.

This would be the best way…. Getting and keeping the license is a hassle.. there is the concern every year of getting a renewal

My license typically expires at least a month before the renewal, I’m lucky my company allows me to drive on an expired license , many may not!

Do they accept results from a cgm now or do they have to be from a glucometer?
