Hi Hitsme, I can tolerate 1 plum never had 2, have them a few times a week. You see I am ok with pears and dates and half a banana raspberries and strawberries too, I know there are some who can not even eat any fruit, I eat it as it is good for you really. Hope this is of a little help to you.

Terrific news @Hiitsme I wouldn't mind a few extra carbs myself, what will you choose extra bread? (my fav) rice? or something "naughty" your post is very encouraging for us all.

I know you've mentioned walking before, do you find it difficult to fit 7 miles a day in? Do you do it before or after work? I love walking but can't imagine how I could fit 7 miles in during the winter as it's very dark where I live (no steetlights, very few pavements) so walking after work would involve driving to the nearest town and walking. I do go to the gym every evening but find it pushes my bs up at times, depending on the type of exercise.5.1 this morning. Just an update for those (@13lizanne & @ickihun & others) who had given me help and support a while ago after my readings had gone higher and doctor thought I might be malnourished due to low trigs. I had been encouraged by GP to try a greater range of foods, Yes I can now eat both rice and pasta and often be under 5 after 2 hours now. I only seem to spike to about 7 after an hour to an hour and a half later and then below where I started from after 2 hours. I still need to be very careful with fruit. I have also managed to put on a little bit of weight and BMI now 20.1 as GP wanted my BMI above 20. I also no longer feel exhausted all the time which is also good. I tried cutting down my walking for a bit but have now gone back to mostly about 7 miles a day so I can eat more. My appointment with the dietician isn't until next month so will see what happens then. So thanks everyone.
Note for newbies. A year ago all these foods spiked me into double figures. I lost 2 and a half stone BMI 25 down to under 20 and have reduced my HbA1c to normal level. I would not be suggesting to people trying to control their diabetes to eat more carbs but it seems that now I have my diabetes under control I might need a few more carbs.

Have you experimented with different types of exercise and found walking works best to drop your bs, or do you walk because that works best for you lifestyle wise, and other exercise would work equally as well?

Thanks, that's very useful info.I'm retired so do have the time. I walk to the shops and carry shopping home and as I can't carry a lot do it in small loads. I also live where there are pavements and street lights so mostly do a short 30 mins walk after evening meal.
I have tried a few different exercises but kept on pulling muscles in my back so stopped. We are all different you go to the gym and I walk. Both work in their own ways. Walking is free except for having to replace trainers when worn out! My husband likes walking so weekends and holidays we often walk together. Most days I try to do 3 walks, morning, afternoon and after evening meal.

Hi all , now this is how I feel about the course. Firstly as Rons wife and carer you don't really get involved in this course , so I felt as if I was in the way. So hence boredom set in. I felt like I was back in the school classroom , To begin with they went on about how diabetes affects your organs and about the food you eat . Then about the complications of being a diabetic . Your medications and that all T2s should be on statins. How fats are bad for you and the need to reduce them . They covered nerve damage and your eyes . Quite frankly all you need to know you can get off this site . They said unless like Ron who takes gliclazide you do not need to test so no need to go and buy a meter . You should only then have tests done at your GPs . I for one wouldn't recommend going complete waste of timehi all just got back from DESMOND coarse and were to I start
first got my results from my last bloods Hba1c 138 cholesterol 8.5
secondly would I recommend the coarse to a newby yes I would but I wouldn't to any members on here as I have learned more from this site than I did going today
they are now in favour of low carbing but are now all low fat low fat low fat all fat is bad and push this through out the coarse
thirdly i was the only one testing bloods there and there was only one other on metformin the rest were only border line type 2 on diet control only and it seemed at times the instructors were basically saying look this is what will happen to you (revering to me) if you don't control your diabetes . don't get me wrong they were all lovely people but not nice being used as a scare tactic for others
