Type 2 Life

Hello @liam1955 I just woken up at 1.40 and found your post before Masterchef . Did you manage to just have your cheese and crackers or did you succumb and have other treats? I don't know what my morning bs will be but I've just tested and 5.8.

That's appalling @eldergarth. The course leaders should never refer to someone on the course as a bad example, that is completely unhelpful and unprofessional.
I'm so sorry that it was so poorly organised and delivered. It sounds as though it was a waste of your time. I'm now having serious doubts about the one I'm booked on to.
No it wasnt very nice for me and any questions I brought up were basicly answered dont worry about it you will be fine .
But I felt sorry for one of the pre diabetics that was there when he asked about testing and the instructor just kept repeating "why are u testing u dont need to test " she must have said this about 4 times in a sarcastic manner .
And yes they do have a set script to follow and will not deviate from it at any time is what we were told at the start of the coarse

Don't really know how we managed to stay quiet like we did . I was expecting you to kick of . Part of me wished you did. Feel really sorry for the others who attended . Think some will really struggle.

Right something for everyone to think about!
Is it better I run my bgs a little higher on less insulin to lose weight or use my insulin to keep excellent bgs/fbgs?
My dn insinuated that I could run them a little higher to help my weight. When it's common knowledge that anything over 7.8 runs risk of complications.
Now. I've had diabetes for 39yrs with no complications on no meds for over 2/3rds of that time nor monitoring either. So historically good diabetes control.
I'm desperate to lose weight. Been offered bariatric surgery if I want it.
What do you guys think? Excellent fbg/bgs or just under 7.8?

Hope everyone has had a good day today. My fingers are a little sensative from testing but really pleasd with my results today.
Fasting 4.5
After brekkie 6.6
Before lunch 4.8
After lunch. 6.3
Before evening meal 4.7
After evening meal 6.3
This is the lowest I have been in 2 weeks since I began testing, as I started off 15/16. Thank you everyone who had given me advice and thank you to my doctor for prescribing me strips, starting testing and coming on this site is the best thing that I have ever done xx

Hi @kjc2011
Well done those are really good. Hope this is an incentive to keep it up, but there can be times when other factors affect blood sugars.

Morning all just tested And got a 5.9 happily stunned as I was awake doing a rush job for a Client last night till 3am....Yawn!

I have cancelled my Aqua class this morning as I do feel pretty much shattered.

Good day yesterday which gave an a Daily average of 5.6, and I am another kilo down And only 1 kilo of my lowest weight for 5 years.

Ok I am now going to curl up on the sofa with a mug of tea And Jeremy Kyle.....I know how to live!

What is most important to you Vicki? You will have more success with the path that you are happiest with. Are you considering surgery? or do you want to avoid? We will all have differing opinions on your question as we can only know what we ourselves would do in your situation. I think that you already know deep down what you will do :)

Hi @ickihun
I think you:re in a very difficult situation. If weight is your main concern would something like the Newcastle Diet or the 8 week blood sugar diet help? I'm just trying to think outside the box as to what options you might have. I don't have any experience on insulin but I've read that it doesn't help weight loss so increased insulin would not help. Could you alter your diet so you need less insulin?
I fully understand you don't want diabetic complications and wonder if reading Blood Sugar 101 would give you any help?

39 years is a long time and your experience is a lot greater than mine.
Sending you best wishes.

I will happily take a morning in the 5's yesterday was my 3rd consecutive day with all readings under 7.0 which was one of my mini goals. So yep feeling good, well a little frayed around the edges this morning but I have only had 5 hours sleep.

Many thanks to @ickihun for the advice on eating a protein snack before bed.....Bedtime Babybell are working well x

Sounds exactly like the course I went on, same replys, or we will discuss that later in the course, but we never did, they have a time plan also, questions were often pasted over, like you said testing wasn't needed they said. Good luck on your next meeting,

Hi @eldergarth
When I did Desmond last September about half the group were self testing and they were very impressed. They did't say everyone should be self testing but did spend time on what our levels should be, We were also told we should be under 7 by 2 hours after a meal and to aim for that. Sorry to hear that your experience was so negative.

Well just another normal day as I sat at the lights in peak traffic this afternoon a young kangaroo bounced thru the intersection chucked a U turn and bounced away as we all sat in our cars with smiles on our faces at the irony because many of us when we travel are often asked if kangaroos are in the streets of our cities much to our annoyance:):)

@ickihun

The simplest way to lose weight is to eat less food. Think of the starving people walking across deserts in search of food and water and get thinner and thinner until they collapse and their bones become visable under the skin.

What insulin regime are you using that you can't adjust so that you can lose weight? It's easy to lose weight with bolus basal but twice daily insulin can be adjusted as well.

Have you tried eating a plain 2 egg omelette for breakfast instead of ??. What about a salad at lunchtime consisting of steamed fish, diced iceberg lettuce, cucumber, celery but no oil dressing, just a spray of weak lemon juice with a small tomatoe to add some colour........no nuts or butter or cheese. Followed by 2 full half pint glasses of water. You will feel up.
Evening meal......boiled cauliflower, green beans, cabbage, broccoli, frozen peas with small amount of meat and tiny watered down gravy...........?.so no sauces or butter to dress food up.......everything very plain and simple. Pudding could be half an apple sliced up in some sugar free jelly or using a few strawberries or blueberries. So cut out full fat milk, cheese, butter, nuts and full fat yogurt. These all cndaused the pounds to pile on me and made a marked increase in my cholesterol with a higher triglyceride and a slight resistance to insulin meant that I also needed to increase my insulin.

Well am I chuffed to bits or what!:D This is my second fasting reading of 5.3 this year.:D
@ickihun - I think I would run the risk of higher blood sugars in the hope of losing weight Vicky. I have took 4 units less of Insulin this morning and I am going to be really good today and have no rubbish.
@mo53 - That was a good reading this morning:)

@liam1955 well done! That's fantastic! Thank you for the encouragement. It was 5.8 when I woke at 1.40 and 6.1 when I got up later. I'm really pleased. Have a good day.

@mo53 - Thank You. Maybe you ought to have had a wee nibble of Cheese before you went back to bed! Who knows your fasting may well have been just a wee bit lower than 6.1? :). (It's all about trial and error or as I say experimenting):) Did you have your half Lidl roll for your supper?
