Type 2 Life

@eddie1968 - York is positioned between 2 rivers and during January with all the rain, one of the river's flood barrier failed and it was devastating for the City. The Viking Centre was under several feet of water, I had never seen the floods that bad. Did you actually go up to the top of York Minister? (275 steps = I have done it twice) But, my favourite is The Shambles with all the little Shops, have you walked along the Roman Bar Walls that encircled the whole of the city? It is brilliant to do on a sunny day. So where in Bonnie Scotland do you live?:)

Hope everyone's ok. Does anyone know if kurkins & pickles & mustard are bad for us diabetics? Thanks. Raining heavy here, forecast plenty more to come !
Gherkins in vinegar should be ok but check the jar to see if it is sweetened vinegar, pickled onions, cabbage etc same caveat....mustard will depend on the brand, thickener, any sugar BUT as with ketchup and the like that does have sugars alsoo bear in mind just how little you actually use.......look up the carbs on the jar and you think WOAH, that's a lot (per 100g) then, if you've got electronic scales like my daughter bought me, weigh out your usual splodge of sauce ..... and THEN see how many carbs it hits you for.......you may be pleasantly surprised

Hello maureen5752 - well I have had Salad for my evening meal of which there were pickled onions, gherkins and green olives - I eat these almost everyday. I can't check blood sugars because I have just eaten Apple Pie but the Custard was sugar free!:)

Sable Jan & liam1955. Thanks very much will check, just seen programme on tv ot showed lots of Iranian foods which I really miss but they include pickles & kerkins & I love mustard, gave up all sauces long ago, had good clean out of food cupboard! 20 kilos of white rice ect Musili. Granola, custard, biscuits, loads of stuff. Didn't want to be tempted, trying to be good, love a big cheese cake now!!! I'm still having to rejoin every time but it's getting worse, cuts of immediately have a good evening everyone

Ugh. Went to Nottingham today with my family... On my bad foot. Completely wore myself out. Ate a scotch egg while out which apparently had a far bit of carbs in it. Came home too tired to care about anything. Ended up caving and having fish-n-chips from the chippy with them. 1/3 a piece of fish and about 1.5 potatoes worth of chips. No monitor to know the damage, but my fitness pal app says that for the day I'm at around 60gr carbs... Three times my limit.

Not that I care for a day, but, I have my hba1c on Monday.., now I'm worried my results will be messed up.

Any words of comfort to be had? I'm really regretful, yet honestly, so tired and sore from overdoing it I could cry anyways, carbs or no carbs. I think I might need to go to bed. :(

Just checked my kerkins & pickles but waste of time they're Iranian & they don't give any info on carbs, sugar ect. So I'd have to go shopping and check in the shops!

I find the pickles or what a Canadian would call a pickle in this country to be very sweet. I've been here a year and a half and have yet to find a good low-carb (not sugary) pickle. Following this to see what you come up with!! ;) I miss pickles too!

I always made my own pickles in Iran like the Iranians. We don't use sugar just loads of spices and vinegar but these I have in cupboard I bought in Iran from a shop & of course you don't know how they were made, they don't put info like sugar carbs or snythink on the labels, so have to rethink this one. Thanks

Hi all , have found a recipe for low carb pickles on sparks recipes it has 4.8g of carbs per serving . If that's any good for you .

Hello @Myangelsmom - Don't beat yourself up, look upon it as a 'one off' I don't think it would have messed up your results. Another member was telling me last week that they ate battered fish and Chips and was amazed they had no effect on their blood sugars 2 hours later. BUT, - we all react differently to various foods and what one person can eat, another may get higher readings. Do you not have a Blood Glucose Meter?

@Myangelsmom its only 1 day out of 90 for you Hba1C, OK so it is recent so more influential than previous days. But even if it counted double, its only just over 2% of the total. You may be lucky, I find different variety of spuds have a different impact on my BG. Good luck with the test

@maureen5752 you'll probably find something to help on the internet by searching for the key words (your pickles) plus carbohydrates value or something like that.

@liam1955 're the fish and chips. For anything fried like that I can peak at 2.5-3.5 hours later...so the other member you mentioned mayb not so lucky as she thinks....I used to have lightly battered fish and half the chips but found due to the extra fat I can have normal batter. My peak usually just sneaks in under the radar....
The naughty pud I mentioned earlier for my tea put me at 7.4 at 2hrs and 7.7 at 2.5 hrs. Knew I'd be high but just within range. Not regular treat tho

Ooh, you know, I've found that. The "waxier" spuds which I prefer are better than floury ones for me

Have a good day with your Mum tomorrow...
Does volunteering at the theatre mean you get to see the shows for free or are you too busy?
I'm one of the usherettes so I get to see the shows for free. I have worked on the food and drink kiosk and as a duty manager and I was really busy then, I much prefer working front of house because it's not so stressful

Hey, that's brilliant. Old fashioned barter system.

Myangelsmom, fell off the wagon Friday night....lots of naughties,,so had to slip in an extra fast 24 hours through to dinner yesterday....seemed to do the trick stabilising my BG...but oh that terrible sluggish feeling in the meantime...."never again" me thinks.
