You're unable to eat fruit @cdpm and seldom include vegetables like tomato and peppers (technically fruit though we think of them as vegetables) in your meals. You also avoid fish and shellfish. That means you may not be getting sufficient vitamin C and zinc in your food. These two nutrients play a vital role in healing cuts.
If I were you, I'd check the label on your multivitamin and mineral tablet carefully to ensure you're not going short of vitamin C and zinc, because a deficiency of either will delay gum healing and of course diabetes doesn't help.

The family stew sounds lovely @cdpm and will make a change as you say.
Here dumplings are traditionally made with wheat flour and they're definitely not a wise choice for diabetics. If I were you, I'd swap your dumpling plus the potato with a family member who isn't diabetic, Then you can safely enjoy the rest of the stew. Bon Appétit!

Mid-morning cappuccino
L: Packed lunch made with leftover mushroom and spinach frittata.
Romano peppers, celery sticks and baby plum tomatoes with chicory boats for scooping and a dollop of home-made mayonnaise for dipping.
Prawns and brown shrimps.
Almonds and pecan halves.
Water to drink.
An apricot shared with my husband to round off lunch.
Three or four wild blackberries were ready to eat. on the hoof.

Personally, I cannot handle spuds in any form @cdpm, so take the easy route and avoid them altogether.
Unfortunately, potatoes contain too much starch for most of us, but at least there are no sharp corners and they will provide you with some much-needed vitamin C.
